Minimoto racing is pretty close to the real thing

Hi everyone
I just got home from the 2nd round of the 2008 Super bike series held at Mallala ,that was a rush in its self....now... forgive me if I sound like I'm tripping , but I think that the minimoto racing that I have seen here and interstate was just as exciting as the big bikes.. the only difference being the size of the bikes and their speed.
Our little bikes handle very similar to the big bikes when racing and on any track would use all the same race lines, along with very close racing as do the big bikes too.The similarities even in how the race events proceeded through the day were uncanny.
This gave me great satisfaction to know that we are a true Mini GP racing sport and for some of us old farts this is the closest to Moto GP racing as we will ever get.

I agree andy, in mini gp i think is even harder in many ways we dont have the big budgets and the technical back up alot of these teams have also the bikes dont have the luxury of adjustable suspension therefore the rider has alot more issues to contend with on the track as we all know how many hours we spend off the track in the shed at night trying to not only maintain our bikes but improve them for every hour on the track theres probaly double the time in the shed at night as we all well know, i totally agree the mini gp in reality is just a smaller version of the full size bikes we see on tv or mallala but the effort from riders in mini gp is equal at least to any proffesional rider often being paid a good fee to race difference is we do it not for money but the love of the sport and friendships we make from our sport and the fact we all want to be winners the great thing about our sport is the guy next to you is not your enemy but a friend and will be the first to help you get back on the track even if it means your going to beat him you wont get that in any other form of bike racing but mini gp

i could not agree more with you paul and andy this sport is one of the most enjoyable sports that has all the aspects of real moto gp but then the benefits of what paul mentioned such as the unity between competitors because we are all mates not enemies

Well said boys. Its a real priveledge to be able to do what we do. Being able to share the experience is just the icing on the cake

i hate how people who have never riddin a good bike on a track bag our sport i love mini moto but i have not experinced riding a road bike on a track

Hi all, been a while but just like to add something about what paulk wrote, and I quote

Well I have some friends that just bought some cags for their kids and they went out to the Pooraka track yesterday. I told them I would go down and help them out as I new one bike wasn't running right. Well They got there before me as I was running late (just been 4 a ride of me own with about 30 other blokes) When I got there the kids come running up to me before I even got out the car saying they had broken the pull start cable, I though yeah great Iam knackered from my ride and thats the last thing I wanted to be looking at (geeze new cags bring back memories of when I first started).
Anyway I walked over to where the parents were sitting and asked where the bike was, and they pointed me over to some guys (must be new since I left never met them before) and they were already fixing it for them. I think they played with the carby to, as the bike was running a lot better. Now although I know the is still a few minor problems like the clutch and cables etc. which I will fix later for them, I would like to take this opportunity to thank these guys for getting the bike going for my friends. This is what got me started in the sport, all the great people you meet and the help I received from the experienced guys. Its a great atmosphere that attracts people into the sport, as all my friends stayed till the end, even some friends they invited down for a look could see the fun and support/friendly nature of the other riders, and are now probably going to buy bikes of their own.
Also after having a break for a while it was great to catch up with the owner Gavin of the Pooraka track. It was like I never left and we had a great talk. He also looked after my friends very well which they kept mentioning to me...Well done Gavin and the Pooraka track.

So in closing just like to say thanks to all that helped, because we were all new once and needed it, and this is what makes it a great sport for all to enjoy.

P.S. The 10 year old girl of my mates that was riding looks like she will be a great rider ...she had a crash we would all be proud of and got straight back on and kept riding just as hard. She has no fear I think. She also has already other rider awareness, so maybe a new great competitor.

Good to hear everyones thoughts on this thread.Paul K nailed some very poignant points, from the fact that our racing starts in the shed through to the point that this is also a social sport.
One other real point that I would like to add is that Minimoto bikes are a true step in the direction towards racing larger moto GP bikes as is the case in Europe.
Bj #5 who knows maybe one day you will get to ride a bigger bike. I bet that when you do you will have flash backs to the first time you rode a pocket bike.
