I like the rules. It makes the sport more professional. It adds more work though in setting up the bike such as drilling and wiring up bolts such as the brake caliper bolt. And fitting a fuel breather tube and reservoir. This will force the bikes to become safer.
I like the safety gear that is allowed. I have a leather jacket but not pants. Good that they will allow jeans. The shoes that they describe sound like Joe Rockets. Bit of expense there.
The other good idea is creating the rules for engine modification. Good that porting and changing exhausts is not allowed for production bikes. This will help to keep the cost of the sport down.

From the above you can see that the costs caught my eye. I haven't raced yet. I am still collecting the gear I need. I use to road race the real bikes 28 years ago and it was very expensive. I like the idea of pocket bikes because you can relive the feeling of racing without the big bills. And also the only way I could afford to race again.

Looks good, all that is pretty much in line with normal road racing rules as far as bike prep, safety requirements and race management goes.
The classing looks great as far as allowing cheap racing to take place in a competetive manner in the production classes and the Supers class will keep almost every one else happy, except for the current juniors who race modified bikes. They will have to run in production if 13+ or juniors if under 13. There will be lots of fast juniors who now can't race their current bikes. I can see a BIG outcry comming about this from parents who suddenly have to change bikes so their kids can keep racing. Also its alittle unclear as to whether air cooled and water cooled are still separate classes. I'd guess they must be.
Over all though I think this is a definate step in the right direction for the future of Minimoto in Oz.

I think it is a good and necessary step in the development of the sport. But once again, me and my freak bike miss out on a class  I have suspension AND wheels larger than 6.5 inches  Not much point racing against 125cc four strokes on a 50cc two stroke

Are there going to be increased costs involved in racing/riding if we allow MAA to govern what goes on? Generaly any MAA event involves a slice of entry fees going to MAA, also I think they requir an ambulance to be at a lot of events which is also at the expense of the organizer. This cost would surely be passed on to those riding.
Just something to think about.

I'm not sure if they are combining Air/Water cooled, but common sense suggests they would be split? Otherwise "Production Class" would see 40/50cc top HP Bi-Zetas racing basically standard CAG's :?

The 4.2 H/P Class is open to Aircooled Polini's etc as that's about all you woluld probably get at the back wheel. (Or detune to achieve the max limit). While those with GAG's will be searching for that odd "Gem" from China that goes hard out of the box and gets closer to the HP limit (They'll also need a huge stock of CAG Exhausts as they are lucky to last a race meeting without falling apart all over the track  ).

That aside, the safety aspect and race rules are in line with accepted MA standards and that is all for the good of all.

It won't make racing any cheaper, but will make it fairer with definite limits on modifications in all but the Super class.

I know a lot of Juniors will not be happy with the HP restrictions as they are used to riding both Air and W/Cooled rockets and are experienced in quick race bikes.

As a Parent of 11 and 15 y/old racers I'm not phased either way for under 13's, but I would like to see a 13-16 y/o Super Class so the young guns can run these quick bikes before launching into Senior Super.

It is a positive start and is at least a platform on which to deveop some national standards in many areas.

Wow , great to see some feedback and people actually caring how they want this sport to grow! i also think that the juniors should have a super class as there are alot of talented young riders out there that can handle the power

Feedback is great I agree......

Lots of questions already from a lot of guys this end as it seems to be pointed at Euro bikes. Nothing wrong with that as long as there is always an entry level (relatively cheap and competitive) for young kids to get into the sport. I love the format though there are question that need clarification.

At the end of the day, I would run a bike to meet national standards tomorow (be it slower or faster) if it meant fair and competitive racing on safe tracks with track and rider controls in place. It will cost more one way and save in others.

BTW see ya at Bundy in August, should be a great weekend
Al
