| | | Pocket Bikes at Todd Road
Hello all,
I've been keeping an eye on this website and forum for a while now and I thought that I should join and add my two bits worth.
I attended the Todd Rd track about 12 months ago and spoke to a couple of committee members about the potential of having Pocket Bikes on their track.
The general consensus that I got from the committee members was that they were open to the idea, however the problem aparently lied with the membership. It seems that as a Melbourne Go-Kart Club member you are entitled to use the track whenever you like if you have a key to access the track. Basically, the Kart members want to be able to use the track any time they like at a moments notice, and if the track is closed due to "another user" such as pocket bikes, they believe that this is not fair for them considering they have paid their membership fee of around $200.00/year.
The individuals that I spoke to said that the possibility of bikes using their track had come up at a committee meeting once before however it was knocked on the head by the membership.
My query to the VPBA is "Has anyone from the VPBA approached the Melbourne Go-Kart Club at a committee meeting and put a proposal forward?"
It is also interesting to add that the Go-Kart club committee members that I spoke to were keen to have a greater use of their track - as there is plenty of down time when the track is not in use. Basically they want to make the most of their facility and are keen to explore other money making avenues.
As far as safety goes there is ample "run-off" room at Todd Road, unlike GPTC, which has trees and fences too close to the track.
I understand that there is a Pocketbike race meeting at the Todd Road track this weekend (8th & 9th of Sept). This could be an ongoing thing... it just needs the right representation and a professional approach.
Anyway, that is my two bits worth for now.
Gaz.

This weekend is actually the third race meeting at Port Melbourne kart track held by the MMMCI.
Port Melbourne go kart track committee will only allow us to hold two meetings in 2007.
The second being this coming weekend 8th and 9th September.
Now, if you know so much about all this, become a member of the MMMCI and help out the few who are already streched to their limits trying to keep things running smooth every race day.

if this is true i think i may no why. there are a few concerns on the shoulders of the comitee and other sponsors of the track. sponsors being many of the melb karting shops. in which i am a team member of probably the most influencial sponsor of the club. one of the issues is the use of so called tyre treatment that you are able to use on your bikes. this is just one problem. the tracks are very tempermental and can effect the racing line as well as being picked up on tyres when races are on the following week. this is a huge issue with people racing in teams and take it very serously throwing any wear from $20,000 - $50,000 in for a year. if it is picked up on tyres they are then lablled as a cheat and can ruien there kart career.
im not shure if this is the real issue but just one i have herd going around in my team, and talking to my team owner.
i think there are ways to get around it by banning the use of "tyre treatment"
just thought i would let u no, cause im all for pocket bikes at my home club of gkcv.
joey.
