Oz Minimoto is now a SAVA racing tyres dealer.

Oz Minimoto has been made a dealer of SAVA tyres within Australia.
Our first order arrived in Melbourne on the 2nd of June.
I should have them cleared with customs by the end of the week.
If you would like to have a look at pricing, click the link.
Ozminimoto - Mini Pocket Bikes - Products

Here is a little info about this brand of tyre.

1.) TYRE COMPOUNDS

SAVA tyres are available in 3 different rubber compound specifications and 2 different carcass specifications

Rubber compound specifications:

MA / MRA - very soft racing tyre

MB / MRB - soft racing tyre

MC / MRC - medium rental tyre

Carcass specifications:

MA / MB / MC - normal carcass

MRA / MRB / MRC - reinforced (stronger) carcass, which is mainly used by heavier riders +70kg (less air pressure required)

Use of different specifications:

MA / MRA - racing tyres, that best use is in colder weather and smooth surfaces

MB / MRB - racing tyres, that best use is in warmer weather and rough surfaces

MC / MRC - rental tyres, that can be use for rental purposes and also for racing, where very long tyre life is required

Approximate compound hardness are:

MA - 48 +/- 6 ShA

MB - 52 +/- 6 ShA

MC - 61 +/- 3 ShA

Recommended values of inflation pressure:

Front tyre 90/65R6.5: 0.9 – 2.5 bar (for MA, MB)

0.8 – 2.2 bar (for MC)

0.7 – 2.0 bar (for MRA, MRB, MRC)

Rear tyre 110/50R6.5: 1.0 – 2.6 bar (for MA, MB)

0.9 – 2.3 bar (for MC)

0.8 – 2.1 bar (for MRA, MRB, MRC)

Also here is a independed write up on on the testing of these tyres from the US.

I am a long time (4 year) pmt. tire fan. Not because the tires are the best (they are great tires) but because up until 2003 pmt. was the only "non-Chinese" brand of Pocketbike tire available here in the U.S.

Now we have two.

I was contacted by Mr.Denny Arroyo from Sava West ( www.savawest.com Coming Soon! ) the new kid on the block for the U.S. Pocketbike tire market to do a review on a set of Sava tires.

I chose a set of "MB" tires (more on the different spec below). I knew the Sava tires had a much smaller width than the PMT's, but I did not realize how much of a difference there was between the two brands. In fact, when I first opened the box I thought Denny had made a mistake and set me two front tires. Upon further inspection I realized that the rear Sava tire was almost as small as a front pmt. tire. From racing sportbikes I know that a smaller width tire will allow the bike to "turn in" faster in the corners so I was excited to try them out as my riding style benefits from fast direction changes in the corners.

I decided to mount this set of tires on my lucky7 Chinese Pocketbike as my ATM still had a set of PMT's on them with plenty of wear left. One warning, when putting the Sava tires on your rims you will need a lot of air pressure to get them to bead right. In fact I had to use A LOT OF AIR pressure to get the tires to bead. Other than the extra pressure required I had no problems with installing the new rubber.

If you are used to the wider PMT's or the Chinese tires take it easy in the first few corners with the Sava tires. I knew the bike would turn in faster with the smaller circumference but I was shocked to find out how much of a difference these tires make. In the first two corners I almost lowsided with the MUCH faster direction change the Sava tires give you. After a few laps I was happy to see that instead of having to "push" to get over into the corners with my old PMT's the Sava tires let me to "dip" into the corners and allowed me to concentrate more on my throttle control and carry more corner spead through the corner as I was also able to pick the bike up faster on my exit and get back on the throttle much quicker. As for grip they felt a little softer than the comparable PMT's in this class (T4's). I did notice that the looked a little more worn after a day of racing than with the PMT's but nothing that would make me worry about the life span of the tire.

Another great thing about these tires is they are cheaper than the PMT's (as of the date of this review) so I can only guess once the Sava tires become more well known pmt. is going to have to drop their prices or lose a lot of customers.

In comparing the Sava to the PMT's, if you are a racer of any type of Pocketbike the Sava brand tire is the new king:

They turn into (and pick up out of) the corner faster.
They stick better.
They wear about the same.
They are cheaper.

It looks like pmt. has some serious work to do as I am now a dedicated Sava customer for all of my Pocketbikes.

I will not be getting any Chinese bike of any type in the forseeable future.
This is due to people purchasing bikes from ebay from $90 to $170.
I purchase bikes for around $150 with many upgrades included, then I spend around one hour checking, tuning and adjusting each bike.
I also cover any parts that break for the customer for the next few months after purchase.
Then I sell them for $289.
I believe this to be a fair price.
I have only sold about 2-4 cag bikes this year, so it is just not worth my time.
So I will leave the Chinese sales to Ebay sellers.

Please note: In the first post that was written up by an American who was testing the PMT's verus Sava tyres in the USA, the tester said he used a high psi to inflate the tyres.
Please NEVER use high pressure to inflate any tyre.
It may cause a malfunction or seriously injure yourself or someone else.
Always use a professional for tyre fitting.
Inflation pressure should never be higher than 30-40psi.

SAVA TYRES TESTING

Temperature of testing period was 12.5 degrees centigrade.
Track used for test period: South Morang
Track surface: Bitumen
Tyres tested: SAVA
Tyre pressure: Front 18psi / Rear 20psi.
The profile of the SAVA tyres is considerably more rounded than the broad PMT’S.
Rider 1: Weight 52kg. Tyres MA
Rider 2: Weight 76kg. Tyres MRA
Bike tyres tested on: Two separate bikes, both Blata Elite 14 JR.

Upon, checking tyre pressures, both riders went out for two warm up laps.
Both riders then came in to check tyre pressures.
On both bikes the front tyres lost pressure down to 7psi, rear tyres where 20psi.
Topped up front pressure to 40psi, and then deflated to 18psi again.
Both riders then went out for two more warm up laps and then returned to the pits.
Tyre pressure held at 18psi in the front and the rear tyre pressure was still 20psi.
This assured us that the tyres had ‘beaded’ correctly and pressure was being held at test pressure.

Riders then both went out for five race pace laps.
Upon their return, their first impression was that these tyres turn ‘into’ and ‘out of’ corners considerably quicker than the PMT tyres previously fitted.
This is something a rider will easily get used to, and will take advantage of with their riding techniques.
Lean angle becomes further due to the much more rounded profile on the SAVA tyres allowing a greater existing speed out of the corner.

After the five race pace laps, these tyres felt quite warm to hot.
They were very sticky to the feel and did not ‘ball up’ as older version had before.

Twenty or so laps later it was all ‘thumbs up’.
Both riders felt the SAVA tyres will improve their lap times and were able to trust their tyres with much higher corner speeds due to improved grip.
Wear was acceptable for the higher available grip.

Please note: The Sava MA and MRA are a very soft racing tyre, designed for maximum grip in cold conditions. Their wear will be greater than harder compound tyres, but the grip is exceptional. Pricing of these tyres is also great at $73 to $78 for the MA’s and $84 to $92 for the MRA’s.

Hi Dazza
I think that I can see some of these heading south, thanks for the informative write up on these tyres as very little is known about them in SA as we mainly run on CR$#$^y zhongas and the Pmts here.
