R1 buget performance tips

My mate brought my R1 but wants it to go faster. He doen't have much money to spend on it.

I told him to get the exhaust port to be 1mm wider on both sides= total of 2mm total width, top of port to be 2mm higher as said on that sticky.

He doesn't have any money for a pipe or carb. Can you get the stock carb grinded back to make it bigger and imporve flow? If you did this would you have to tune the carb?

My friend and I don't want to do this ourselves as we don't have the expertise.

Where in Melbourne could you have this done? How much would it cost?

Your help would be great

cheers,

fieldo, as you said you and your friend don,t have any expertise in working on engines, thats good you are both about to learn some simple and easy performance mods. the first thing to remember when working on an engine is the word [ caution] plus [patience] plus [cleanliness] this means you must be carefull at what you do, take your time and keep both a spotless work area and a totally clean finished product before re assembly. the first concern is the stock fuel filter [no good] you can go to super cheep autos and buy a car in -line filter for $2. this is your first performance gain believe it or not. next is the carby, is it as clean as a baby,s bum so to speak, the stock carb can be drilled out to 14mm plus the outer venturi side [air filter side] can be opened up with a triangle shaped grinding stone to a total of 18mm. [electric drill required for this] now the cylinder / barrell, as per sticky you can open up the exhaust port area by 1mm to each side and up to 2mm on the top side, please understand and take note of this proceedure as this is where you can make or break the performane of your engine, unless you have a spare cylinder. the ignition timing of your engine should be checked as [sticky] as this will add performance as well. just for now just remember the main heading of C.P.C.

What do you mean by this. By incresing the exhuast post how could it break the engine.

My mate was also thinking about taking every second fin off the fly wheel. If this hard to do?
Do you just take off the cover of the CVT which if on the left of the bike (not the pull start side) Correct me if I am wrong but you have to take of the clutch before the fly wheel. How do you take of the clutch? Do you need anything special to take off the fly wheel?

Any help would be great

its time to start reading, you know like you do at school, read some of our posts about what you want to know and then you may learn abit without asking too much, also the word or words make or break an engine referes to making an engine go well or go bad.

fuel line

I'm off to super cheap auto to get a 6mm gasket to put between my exhuast port and exhuast.

As told by raz I am also getting a new fuel line and filter. This might be a really dumb question but do I have 2 fuel lines. I have a see throught line and a black line. This is a long shot but is the black one the overflow?

Should I replace the line and filter or just the filter.

thanks

its a fuel return line, i left it alone and just replaced the other one
i put a 6mm line in and have to open up the rubber seal a bit to fit the line in the hole that goes into the tank.

fel line

There are 2 lines going into the fuel tank. I looked in the fuel tank and saw that the black one has the fuel filter on it. Is this the one you have to replace?

With the rubber seal do you have to take it out? How would you get the filter out and the lines??? It seams hard to take out and I don't want to break it. :?

Knibbsta did you also replace the fuel filter because it sound to me you just replaced the line.

thanks
