the easiest way to remember which way i should fit the timing key is to check the direction of your flywheel when you give a slow pull on the starter, take note of the direction it will be either clockwise or anti clockwise, eg; spins to the right or spins to the left. mark an arrow with a felt pen to the direction the flywheel turns when pull starter turns over engine, now when you fit your new timing key it must be fitted so the flywheel will change time like a clock going in the direction that your engine turns by pull starter, eg; clockwise direction say 12 o,clock when you fit your key the time will change to approx 12.05 o,clock, if your engine rotates in the anti clockwise direction the time will change to approx 11.55 [ 5 minutes before 12 o,clock. this all boils down to the direction the engine turns [flywheel rotation] to the left or to the right.

no problems fitting the key except that after i put it back together i realised that i forgot to put the flywheel bolt back on!!
after that no worries.
i have rebuild the carbie and locktighted all the bolts, power key and 2 piece stainless pipe
now it seems that the clutch is not grabbing since i put it back together! :x
(when it was in bits i gave the clutch the lightest little sanding)
what can i do :?:
this thing is never ending :!:

it sounds most likely that the clutch is not grabbing but it could be something else too. firstly check that your clutch is in the right way  then check that nothing is caught and stopping the shoes from opening. next check that the carb is tuned right (if way out of tune sometimes the bike doesnt move when you twist the throttle). if none of those solved the problem get a new clutch

the clutches on these bikes are the same as the ones on common petrol scooters. hope that helps

knibbsta, it sounds like your clutch assembly is slipping on the crankshaft, remove the clutch cover then remove the center bolt, give a slight tap in with a hammer [carefully] then re fit the bolt and tighten up as tight as possible, without breaking the bolt.
