Obviously everyone is going to say something different and at the end of the day you are going to do what you think is best. Myself and a few friends of mine with PB's have chosen this way : The first three tanks of fuel you go through are to run the bike in, at a ratio of 25:1, using Castrol Activ2T which is a Mineral Based 2 Stroke Oil readily available in any Super Cheap Auto or Repco store, with (if in Australia) BP Ultimate 98 Octane Fuel.
After the bike is run in, change the ratio to 50:1 (although thinking of going back to 40:1) using Castrol TTS which is a full synthetic 2 Stroke Oil, and as above BP Ultimate 98 Octane Fuel.
Another tip: Why use Lawn Mower oil? Are you riding a lawnmower. No. Stick to Motorcycle 2 stroke oil. Myself and my mates have used this formula since day dot of owning the bikes and have had no problems whatsoever.
Hope this helps guys.

Hi just reading some of these replies should help me, I've just bought my son a second hand pocket bike they guy rekons it was only ridden twice so I dont know exactly how many tanks of fuel it has had. My son is only 6 so I don't need a mixture for performance I'm looking more for a mixture to look after the engine and make it last. Do you suggest I stick to the run in formula or can anyone give me any suggestions to the brand of oil, fuel and where I can purchase this in NSW, thx for all your replies. |

you can stay with the fuel mix of 25 to 1, this is an oily mixture . a good oil can be purchased from places like supercheap , auto shops, motorcycle shops. good brands are; shell , castrol. petrol can be either unleaded or premium unleaded.

Also Guy's, A tip on petrol. The higher your octane the quicker your petrol will burn out, but at the same time, The better your engine will run.

According to the manufacturers specs, my PB (SQ MT-A4 watercooled) is supposed to run 25:1.
So yeah, just because one person can safely run 35:1, doesnt mean everyone else should. It all depends on the engine being used and the level of modification.
Another thing, I am using Shell (I think) 2 stroke racing oil (cant remember the exact type), same as proper GP bike racers use..... the guy at the shop stressed that I only mix enough fuel for the day, and any unused mixed fuel is to be disposed of as it will seperate and go off. He also said that I must drain the tank and run the carby dry at the end of the day - never leave fuel sitting in it overnight.
Yay.

In my previous post, the oil being used is actually "Castrol A747 Two Stroke Racing Oil" at $35 per litre
