Mate i'm pretty sure if you did search this site you will find ALOT of helpful advice on modifing your bike but it is a bit hard to give you help without knowing what bike you have. i havent been in the scene that long either but i looked and found alot of help on this forum. you are right alot of people here are into the racing of minimoto's but that is a good thing for finding more power out of your bike. the guys here also are very easy to get along with too. seek and you shall find.

Nah fair call, i agree there is plenty of sound advise throughout this fourm. I have already changed to a BM7A sparky, used premium fuel and top notch Castol full synthetic 2 stroke in my air 49cc. I have noticed a gain in response and in power which is great. So yes i agree there is worthy knowledge in here.... my only dilehma is the modification side of things. I read about rocket keys, reeds, but ill be stuffed if i know what they 'actually do' and how to change them or locate them

I suppose the previous comment was made in jest, just takes a lot of time to locate the required information on the internet. Albeit due to the limited polpularity of pocket bikes, which unfortuantley equates to limited amounts of information out there. Also having no circle of mates that are into bikes (all cars) means i have no 'go-to mates'.

All good, will see what i can find.

What i would ask though if someone doesnt mind providing some feedback, is recommended suppliers for parts in Sydney region! I have seen a couple advertising, but would like to hear peoples thoughts/opinions.

Cheers fellas

ye mate it was only in jest i was trying to make the point that some people who sell these products will tell you what you want to hear just to get you to part with your money if you read my first post it was my honest opinion based on years of experience around 2 stroke bikes i noticed you the made reference to your age i am 48 years old my self so i was not trying to take the piss out of an old guy in answer to your questions on the rocket key its just the key way that lines up your timing on your flywheel the one you refer to is offset to advance your timing do they work not really there are better ways to time your engine and those rocket keys are pron to breaking the reads are basically your induction valve they open and close as the engine turns over you would have steel one in your stock engine fiberglass are a good up grade and if you break a fiberglass reed it wont damage the internals of your engine like a steel one would and i would recommend a wave pipe as possibly the best bolt on power gain that's my advice on a stock air cooled but if that's not fast enough for you and you have a need for speed then you need to learn how to build your own race engines or you could take my advice in my first post cheer/////////////////////

Thanks dude, yeah all good. I have spent some time last night and today playing with the bikes and learnt a lot as you said. I agree long term your advice on going for a better bike is wise and correct, i just am not ready to fork out the moula. I am approaching this as a intro to bikes on the cheap

In my/our research my mate put a carbon reed in and it certainly goes better. He put a rocket key in as well and it was hard to tell any difference (maybe his clutch is slipping too)

Mine... I havent changed anything from stock 49cc aircooled but unfortunatley the clutch is fubar'd. The bike slowly deteriorated today from great with plenty of throttle to the point of no go-go... so common sense hat from car days told me something was spinning but no grip. Pulled it apart and found that 2 of the 3 clutch arms had been completely worn down to the metal, yet 1 still had plenty of meat on it... question to you guru's.. is this normal?? 1. to have a clutch wear out within 2 days of usage and 2. Have two arms reduced to metal, yet 1 still fine!??!?!!?

Any recommendations of decent upgrades of clutches? Is it the same scenario as with brake pads? Get some decent friction pad/clutch arms?

Also noticed the fuel filter was installed the wrong way round on both mine and mates bike.... the flow arrow was actually pointing back towards the fuel tank..... WTF!? Would this have any detremental performace effect?

Anyway thats enough whoha for one night.... will start the search for a new clutch and also new pegs (plastic one broke....)

PS. How addictive is this!!!

Very Addictive...!!

If you blow thru the fuel filter it actually works better the way it was setup, just leave it that way or buy an aftermarket one....!

It may not be the clutch quality, there may be another issue .. It could just be a symptom of something else..
An air leak.. running a little lean... dirty carby.... maybe its not bolted on tight enough, make sure you use a quality washer... or somethin of the sort..
& when you tighten it up, you can take off the pullstarter & use a lever between the center of the flywheel to hold the crank still to get it really tight.....
