Exhaust question - Blata B1 replica

A question for B1 replica owners:

Is it normal for exhaust gas to leak from the joint between the header pipe and exhaust can? I also get quite a bit of oil splatter coming out with the gas.

If you've had this problem before, can you please tell me how you fixed it. Can you fit a gasket in the joint? Is it even something worth worrying about? If the leak does not affect performance, then I won't bother with it.

Thanks.

Weird... I remember this thread having a lot more replies. :?

Thanks gazza2003au. Do you think I can use the bandage on the joint, where the header joins the exhaust can? Will it stop the leak coming from the joint?

Thanks again.

the bandage is soft so u can bend it to fit the shape u need once your exhaust system is back together and u run the bike the bandage will go hard from the heat u should be able to wrap it wround the exhaust than slide it into position

I've seen them sealed up but personally I would not worry that much. I know with my bike the engine is pulled out for a tidy up every few race meets. If the pipe is sealed it might make it a bit of a hassle to do. One thing though you would be surprised at the work that the springs do. There is a fair bit of movement down there. Have a talk to some people at your track and see what they are doing. I've also seen loctite high temp silicone used (red stuff).

use some exhaust wrap, buy from an auto store for around $15, u might want to also wrap around the bottom where it might burn the fairing

Okay. I went with the high-heat silicone fix, and it worked perfectly. However, prior to the silicone application, I grinded away a bit of the inner pipe from the exhaust can. It was cut unevenly from the factory, which was the main cause of the leak.

I was getting a lot of smoke and splatters of oil from this leak. This is now fixed, and there are no signs of smoke or oil splatters AT ALL.

Thanks gazza and double for your silicone suggestion.
