| | | Crankcase Porting
I have my motor in pieces atm waiting for a heap of parts to rock up - head kit, exaust, carby ect. But looking at the crankcase where it lines up to the transfer ports i have noticed that there is much room for improvement! so i want to make my crankcase FLOW! but i am wondering if there are any basic guidelines to follow and if dremmeling out the big chunk of meat ontop of the crankcase bearing would affect the timing? But i thought that ultimatly this would be down to when the piston goes down past the ports to allow the fuel in anyway so i wouldn't matter. Any help on on this would be greatly appreciated guys. I want to see just how crazy i can get this little motor goin! haha

I was thinking about this today, butchering it drop the crankcase compresson right down, which would only be taking a step bakwards haha. So i was thinking of just knocking of the lug in the center and smothing the cylinder wall end which sits in the crankshaft just to the side of the transfer ports, matching to the new head and giving a bit of a polish. Am i on the right track here? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

hey mate normally morty would be the best to ask!! but i can say that from alot of testing to leave that lump in, that's actually there for a brace to keep the bearing more steady and cope with morve vibrations. i have tried removeing it and i belive its a waste of time fuel and air do not turn corners, they just take the most direct rout and imo removing that lump is only lossing you that extra crank case compression! just try to clean them up match to the barrel you can spend hours reflowing your cases and then machining them in to get back that compression you lost but imo its not worth the time and effort it takes, as these cases are very flimsy to start with just look at wat getting rid off any bumps and dags thats all i do and my cags work fine also porting aint everythink make sure you spend the time to get your port timing write as this is the most important thing to do hope this helps mate |

Your on the right track. What you are inquiring about is commonly known as KNIFING the case. Smoothing, making sharp angles, and gasket matching are all great performance tricks to a 2 stroke. All I can say is yes! Take special attention to the rod.
