Possibly overheating..?

I believe that my Blata 2.5 is overheating.

Originally, I did about a 20 minute run in a parking lot to test out how sensitive my brakes were. (and very sensitive they are!)

Most of the time the bike seemed to either have power spikes or reverse power spikes in which the power dropped so much that I could be passed by someone leisurely riding their mountain bike.

Late in the parking lot run, the power spiked so much that I felt like if I went any faster I could have fallen off my seat- it's the first time I've ever experienced this much power from my 2.5.

I stopped after going so fast and while I was on the bike, I could feel heat coming to my hands from what seems to be the bike.

I have yet to do a plug chop to check if I'm running rich or lean (will get on that today), but here are some of my specs.

Blata 2.5
Dell Orto 14/14 SHA
Stock Champion plug (to be replaced with a NGK BM6A)

sounds like its still totally stock so i wouldnt think it would be overheating. i dare say its close to impossible to melt a totally stock cag motor - and the 2.5s are pretty close.

do all the basic precautionary stuff though like clean out the carb and check the condition of the reeds + get the new plug otherwise your just chasing your tail trying to work out what it might be

more then likely jetting related tho if all else is good.. see how you go with the plug chop anyway after youve done the above. thatll give you an answer for sure about the jetting

only managed to massively overheat a cag once and they seem to idle really really high once youve done it. so i guess that would be the biggest giveaway.

Will do.

Forgot the ratio... I run 40:1.

Should I change to something like 36:1? The previous owner suggested both of those ratios, but I'm not sure which ratio does what as I am not that knowledgeable in that area.

I use to use my elite fuel in my cag which was 50.1. And never had a problem. (dont sugest this though)

40.1 should be fine...but use a quality oil like motul 800. Oil not only lubricates it takes heat away as well.

36.1 gives you more oil, but if you are using good oil you dont need to go this high.

If its started going harder, its leaning out. Take out the plug and see what colour the ceramic bit is, if it's white, i suggest a larger jet ( i made this mistake recently and blew a motor)
