| | fixing my pull start help pls
hey guyz, got the bike with a faulty pull start, the previous guy pulled it until the point where it stays 3 quarters of the way out! tryed to fix but the previous guy looks to have attempted that already and has even recked the head of some of the allen key heads of the bolts and even the screw head of the screw that holds the black plastic peice inside which retracts the string!
are these cheap enough to replace?on that note what about a fuel tank?
any advise on how to get it apart to even attempt to repair it?
cheer tez...

They are pretty Cheap!
But you have to take it off, then you have to unscrew a screw. Then after you get tht off you will se a medal thing going all the way around. If it is broke you will need a new one.You can buy just the medal pieace but they are hard to find. So your just better off buying a new one there only about $5-$10
I have the same problem right now. And im just getting a new one!

Use a pair of vice-grips to get the stripped bolts out or cut a small slot in the head of the bolt and then use a flat head screwdriver to get them out..
Once you get the starter cover off all you have to do is, pull the starter cord fully out(this puts tension on the spring), then while holding the plastic part that the cord gets wrapped around, you wind the rope back onto all whilst holding the plastic part to keep the tension on the spring.. Once you've wound it back on, let go of the plastic part and test..
Use caution when pulling the pull starter off.. There is a spring inside and may come flying out at a great rate of knots, wear some safety glasses when doing so.. Just in case..

It wasn't me that mentioned that..
But yes, new starters can be purchased.. They are more like $20-$40 for a new starter though(not to sure).. Do some research and have a look around for prices.. Someone else may have more info..
You will more than likely not need to buy a new one.. It will probably be more of the case that the previous owner snapped the cord and attempted to fix it not knowing how to rewind the rope..
As I mentioned.. Get some tension on the spring, then wind the rope around the plastic cord holder whilst holding tension on the spring.. Once you get the starter off it should become more apparent..

Thanks Glen,
Sorry for the late reply,But as you might no according to my other posts Im more concerned with the heating issue!
Your advise of "As I mentioned.. Get some tension on the spring, then wind the rope around the plastic cord holder whilst holding tension on the spring.. Once you get the starter off it should become more apparent.." Proved to be very help full and worked a treat but ever since then everytime Id start the bike it would retract the cord less and less...
I think the previous owner owner has broken/damaged the spring on the inside...
If there is anything else I can doase dont hesitate to mention it???

If the spring was broken I'd imagine it simply would not work..
Reapeat what was mentioned before about pulling the rope out and getting tension on the spring, then rewind the rope.. Maybe there just isn't enough tension on there..

Cheerz Glen,
Done it a couple of times now!
When I release the plastic pully I hear the spring retract into it self!
If that makes sense Ill keep trying,More concerned with my heating probs...

Well to avoid starting a new thread, thought I would tack onto this one! I've also got a stuffed pull start on my blata w/c rep (first time out... what a pain... great fun bike though). So I've seen the kit on ozminimoto are it hardly seems worth messing around with this one.
But, has anyone successfully used a battery drill to start one of these bikes? Surely putting a socket onto the drill, on a low torque setting and cranking it over should do the trick? If so it would tie me over until the rebuild kit can get sent over (I'm in Perth).
Thoughts, theories, opinions?

is that a replica blata u have? my mate just got one and the pull start shat itself too. if u get too agressive on the pull start they break easy. try startin it with a drill on the flywheel. that should work
