Lightbulb question time!

ok guys! here the idea.. i found some good nik copper tube in the shed, perfect size to whind around my aircooleds head. so what i was thinking was.. goin down to the local tip to find my self a small radiator.. ive seen some real small ones (kinda the same size as a watercooleds one) on 'white goods' and what not.. Anyway!
the plan here is to whind the copper tube around the head and to 'this small radiator' mounted at the front along with a watercooled water bottle..
now i know i will need a pump! so my question is...
will a watercooled bell housing with that belt drive to a pump, fit to my aircooleds cankcase?? (the old switcharoo job)
now i know you guys may think this is a waste of time.. but its my waste of time ^^ haha!
cheers guys!!

Try this

Mate im not sure about the pump set up, but I remember hearing about radio controlled model boats that had copper pipes around the cyl head.

Mate I can't see why it wouldn't work. You just have to find a way to get that copper pipe on REAL tight against the heat as contact pressure has a huge bearing on heat transfer ability. Best thing to do would be to tear the original cooling fins off and get it all smooth then wrap tight as hell.
Give it a go and for a test run just run tap water through the cooling head slowly and it should come out warm to hot

The test run should act something like the cooling muffs people stick on outboard motors when flushing them out.

Another slightly crazy idea is you could actually make a water jacket that goes over the cylinder. Seal it up with something like JB weld and then the water jacket will hold water in as it passes over the cylinder itself

Just a tip though. On a head kitted engine just having a watercooled head would do a lot to help a high compression motor. You also find that in a high performance 2 stroke engine most of the heat build up is contained in about the first 30% of the stroke from top dead centre so even cooling ONLY the head would have the benefit of drawing any remaining heat from the cylinder.

If my memory serves me correctly Porsche at one stage made the transistion on some models where they went from aircooled to watercooled by using an aircooled engine block and then specially developed watercooled heads.. There's no reason the same concept can't work for a 2 stroke engine.

ok im going to use the tip about getting it as tight as i can!
(makes alot of sence about the heat transfer)!!
thanks!
hopefully i can get all my parts together soon and start this small project!

ive got alot of copper wire so ill give it a crack at the 1st stage tomoz!

so can anyone surely tell me, that a watercooleds bellhousing with pully will fit perfect to my cag?? (just want to double check!) the 4 monting holes..

I don't know if a watercooled engine's clutch housing will fit a CAG or not. I'd lean towards no. But there's nothing to stop you from fitting a pulley to drive the water pump like Banshee's have. They just press into the inner bearing race and your pinion's fit inside of the pulley and lock it in place.

Check that out mate. I know the cover is on but you'll still get a better idea than before. My bike is a little inaccessable right now.
That photo is of when my banshee was brand new out of the box.
