Blata radiator mod to GP3 rep

Hi all again, sorry for all the posting, i promise ill shut up soon hahah

but heres some quick details on modding the GP3 replica to accept the bigger and better blata style radiators.

first the problems with the original setup.

heres the original radiator. its about half the size of a blata radiator, the fins are poorly made and the radiator is heavier than the blata. the water inlet and outlets are also much smaller so there is less flow through the engine.

not to mention having only 2 outlets means there is a T junction in the pipework between the radiator motor and bottle which is very restrictive and poorly done in these bikes! you can see how poor it is in this picture. between the radiator and coolant bottle are two hose clamps. this is basically where theyve cut and joined the piping because the T junction they use doesnt have a long enough pipe on it! very dodgey..

fortunately these two items make the setup next to perfect. the coolant bottle is needed as the stock one of mine leaked like a sieve and the outlet port is more than twice as small on the stock one.

now what you do is pretty easy! basically just take the bottom mount bracket on your original GP3, cut the end that bolts to the motor off, drill a hole in it then bolt the thing to the original mount ; )

the bracket bolts to the blata radiator just fine also with no mods. top stuff.

thisll work for 99% of people as its pretty strong and the sides of the fairings actually stop it rattling side to side. so its a match made in heaven! i will be welding a few more supports in though so i can bolt it to the 2 other tabs.

and the results.

as you can see in the last picture the front of the fairing is totally taken up by radiator, so all the direct air flow will fall straight on the radiator for some serious cooling! the only thing i dont like is that the front wheel fairing gets in the way alot. so instead of removing it im going to drill some holes at an angle through it to let the air flow through it.

nice work

also the other thing with the old radiator it would suffer like the banshee, because with 2 outlets on the one tank would not let the water flow through the cores of the cooling system ?

its a bad setup all round in size & design this is probbly why you had trouble so early in the bikes life

now you have modded it its going to run 90% cooler after half a dozen laps & stay cool
your on to a winner there top stuff

cheers mac,

the original system is a shocker, the bike heats up to red hot just taking it up the field then back in a few minutes, now its just warm to touch.

my diagnosis from before i think is that the thing overheated and caused the inner o ring on the head to perish. hopefully we shant have that happen again

BTW any word on another indy night?

finally got round to welding up a bracket for this - now it bolts on with 3x bolts so it doesnt swing around. i also moved the radiator up higher so its more exposed to the air stream.

add to that the 3x pipes for the water and its now very solidly mounted! most impressed. cant wait to give it a go!
