Boost ports work as another fuel intake port. When the piston starts going down it compresses all of the fuel/air mixture in the crank case and then when the fuel intake ports/ boost ports Are uncoverd all of the fuel rushes out under pressure into the combustion chamber. Also a good tuned pipe can help suck the fuel/air faster. Boost ports just help get the fuel/air into the combustion chamber quicker and reduce friction on the piston meaning increased RPMS. The more you add the better apparently. But if the boost port does not go further than the piston rings when the piston is at BDC (Bottom Dead Center) apparently all it will do is increase crankcase volume. You can quite happily achive this without a boost port and just add a reed spacer. But Boost ports that do go part the piston rings do add a good amount of power. Hope this helps.
