advance timing key snapped in half?

i just bought an advance timing key from carter racing i decided to install the advance timing key with instructions from my friend and this forum and as i had installed it i put everything back together and tryed to start it.. as i pulled the pull start a few times i heard a cracking sound so i unassembled everything to check and c if the timing key had fallen out of place..as i took the fly wheel off not only did i find the timing key completely out of place but i had found that it had been snapped in half..the part connected to the semi circle was the part that snapped off..is this normal??

that can happen

if you didnt install it properly it can have that effect. Did you line it up properly and locktight it in place? did you do the nut up enough. I have installed heaps of these and never had one with a problem, but i have had to repair several that were fitted incorrectly.

Sounds like you messed up buddy! hope you didn't damage the rest of the engine.

Next time - if you ask very nicely - Mr Carter might show you how its done right
