Chain Adjustment - the art???

Okay... I've had a few attempts and I can't quite get used to it (yet).

I know not to make the chain too loose/tight, and that the recommended play should be 5mm. With the recommended play, it feels quite tight and the wheel doesn't roll too freely at all.

I've checked that the alignment of the back wheel is okay and there doesn't appear to be any misalignment of the two sprockets. And still, it feels like there is some resistance when I roll the back wheel whilst on the stand.

I also noticed that after playing around with the adjustment nuts to set the chain and align the wheels, tightening the axle nut further tightens the chain tension. Do I need slightly larger spacers for the axle?

How tight is tight, and how loose is loose? (Sounds like a stupid question, I know.) When measuring the play, how hard do you pull the chain up and down? And should the back wheel be free to roll when the chain is set to the right tension?

There must be an eaiser way to do all this. Can anyone tell me... PLEASE!!!

I personally adjust my chain with 10-15mm play at the bottom of the chain (below the swingarm) and i also believe that 5mm play is too tight.
