Rules & Regs for "R1" class racing

Looking for information on rules & regs for racing the larger "R1" bikes.
Information so far saye Victoria is the only state where these bikes run.

Can anyone help with contacts where these bike are currently raced as a class separtate to the PB classes??

There are lots of them around , sold on the "wank factor" of headlights etc.

Trouble is , they are not really race bikes. Most of them have side stands that even when removed still leave a big lump of steel sticking out that damages tracks when they crash.

I know a lot of tracks will not run them for this reason.

There is even more variation in these bikes than the others. You get dirrect drive, CVT's, piston port engines, reed engines, 4 stroke engines, different size wheels and tyres, etc etc.

I think if you want to race, get a real pocket bike.

Sorry. Just how it is where I live. Probably different in other areas. It tends to be a supply and demand thing.

Thanks for confirming the fact that there are "pocket bike racers" out there with less brains than the average insect.
Constructive comments would have been better received. :x

Unlike you I have been doing the rounds of what is available & what have been accepted as race able bikes.

Most insurance policies do not allow 4stroke bikes or those with gears. So there!!!!!!!

Yes there are plenty of variations out there.
Unlike "pocket bikes" they all don’t look the same either. & it harder to set up a bit with suspension than 1 built like a go-kart!

As for the engine variations, that is what I am trying to find out & get sorted. Along with Suspension issues & the electrics.

NSW & Qld do not run these bike although they "say" they invited them.
Yer right!!!
& they have no rules or regs specific to these bikes.

But here is 1 for the "pocket bike" lot.
Victorian's won’t race anywhere else.
Seems the Qld track is toooooo BIG.
& The S.A. track is toooo SMALL.
But the Qld racers will be going to S.A. to race in a true National Series & then off to Perth.

Stocky,
Sorry if my initial response was harsh.
I do realise that the pocket bike riders are dedicated to their bikes.

But as you said it is a case of demand in each area.
S.A. has only 1 track to date & no-one seems to be willing or prepared to offer a set of rules for the bigger bikes. At present there are 8 regular riders & another 10-15 looking into it but there is no guide lines to create parity.

Yes there are issues with things like the tyres, side stands, engines, etc.

But unless someone tries to do something it will result in a "run what you brung" situation & a total discrepency over what people have done with their bikes.

At least there was someone willing to do something with the pocket bikes, but looking at the other forums there are still some sorting out to be looked into.

All Im asking for is some base line to start from.
From there it may move on or fold, but at least it was given a start.

You need to get the first 10 together and see if you can agree on your own rules.

There are no rules as yet.

You risk becoming the rules nazi etc

I know what you want to do and good on ya too. It's just too early .

The only one who could do it for you so far is the track.

r1_rider is an unknown quantity at this point
hey Bigbikenutter, why dont you try copying the rules we use in Vic and propose them to ur local track. Because they have been successfully used in other states ur local S.A track might appeal to it more

big R1's

I got both types of bikes, and I actually prefer the bigun' coz I'm fat and old. I agree that tuning suspension adds to the fun. I have raised the rear end by about 12mm...
Had my first ride on the MiniGP track and loved it. It isnt too small. Thats not to say bigger might be better?
We will be in on any racing, in fact we will probably be there sat night.
It would be good to compare notes & performance. I like look of all the cheesy road bike stuff and I like the electric start and it will stay on unless we can't keep up!

Take it easy out there

Good to hear another rider will be out racing.:P
Pity I wont be there.
As for performance speak with Eion or 1 of the other guys as there are plenty of performance upgrades that have been tried & many that work.
Your 1st step will probably be a gearing change as the tightness of the track, puts more on acceleration over outright speed.
Most try running with a 14t front or if your as heavy as me a 13t front.
The other side is to go bigger on the rear sprocket. 56/58t:?
The track office sells both front & rear sprockets so have fun, If its your 1st time be patient as some of the others have been racing there for 9 months.
Just keep it upright & finish each race.
