| | | Class "Guidelines" Discussion
This post is to invite discussion on guidlines for pocketbike racing classes for the entire country.
The idea is that if we all call the same classes the same thing then we can travel and race and all race and compare apples with apples.
Have a read and let me know what you think....

this post is a good idea.
my opinion...
Why only 50cc in open class, why not 52 like the others.?
The stock class allows too much modification.
.. allowing all internals to be machined is a severe modification, and those who do not have the experience to do it themselves will have to pay for it to be done. Also those who do do it will smoke anyone without the modification.
.. Carbies should only be allowed to be modified to allow for changeable jets, no boring of carbies because of above reason.
Thats it from me! basically i just think the stock class should be a little more stock.

I think this is fantastic good one it is good to get as many ideas as possible down here!
Now lets be serious and lets be open and honest 90% of Australia has bought a bike that is 40cc are you saying that they can compete with the QLD riders that have bought a modified stroker version of the MT-A2 that is 50.177cc? NO! so stock should be just that, the stock bore size for a minimoto <40cc do you see how hard it is already 90% of the riders out there are forced to buy a short motor or long from a dealer. So before they start they have forked out upto $300 to be on a level playing field why should they(the majority)??? then they have to start modding.??$$$$
I say a big unfair!!! do you guys see how difficult this will be why should we allow a modified model of bike to rule the stock class?? if it is a stock class keep it stock not for one persons opinion of stock!!! I sell these bikes and I think they are great but I'm being impartial and fair in my reasoning here most people in Aust have 40cc bikes and some 49cc why should we up the class to include a modded bike(50.177cc or 52cc)??? I can remember not to long ago it was said that the 52cc bigbores were not legal for stock class why cause they were smokin the stock 50.177cc same again for the minority of 50.177cc bikes where the rest are concerned.
My 2 cents 8)

Well here's my two bobs worth:
If we are initially trying to come up with a workeable formula for National or intra-State I.e. Championship Status events, then we should have rules that will accept most Mini-Moto style Pocket-bikes in the market place.
Sure some are 40cc, some are 50 and a bit, but I can't see it practical to differentiate the 2 by class, same with internal machining. This would mean in essence that all motors would have to be stripped, measured etc against accepted standards and I don't see the sport having the resources to do this in the near/medium future.
As such, my thoughts are to allow anything in internal machining/porting so that scrutineering of any bike can be done visually and externaly. Only exception is the Crank/Reed block, but they can be easily checked by removing the carby/Reed block
There are very few "Stock" bikes racing regularly as most are modified or have after market bits to varying degrees. Those who try racing with a "stock" (Out of the box) bike usually upgrade or dissapear after one meeting. wether because of lack of competitiveness, interest or lack of money, those guys very likely are never going to get involved in championship status meetings
My thoughts are 3 classes: STOCK MODIFIED
Engine and Frame of Chinese Manufacture only
Air Cooled 51cc Max
Standard Crank, Conrod, Crankcase, Barrel-Head unit, Flywheel, Ignition, Reed Block and Reeds, Clutch.
98 Octane fuel, Chinese wet or dry Tyres only, No Suspension, Single front and rear cable only brakes
OPEN MODS/AFTERMARKET PARTS ALLOWED:
Porting
Carby, Manifold, Velocity stack and Filter
Exhaust
Spark plug, Offset timing key
Clutch springs
Gear ratios and chain
Footpegs
Bearings, Gaskets, Seals
Oil SUPER MODIFIED
As above except:
Open mods/aftermarket parts allowed to: Crankcase, Crank, Conrod, Flywheel, Barrel, Head, Reed block, Reeds, Clutch (Must be centifugal), Twin front cable only brakes WATER COOLED
Never ran one so I'll leave this up to those in the know to comment STOCK MODIFIED:
Compulsory for all Juniors, and Ladies (Where Juniors and Seniors may race in the one event)
Compulsory for all "Championship" status races for both Juniors and Seniors
It has been stated in posts that Championships should be to seed out the best riders, and to do this all bikes must be as equal as possible within reason (And the CC thing is a problem, but down the track serious racers will resolve this by upgrading).
I don't think any Championship should not be run to decide which importer has the best add-on bits, specifically cranks, Barrels and Heads which is where the real expense comes in. If they want to sort out the answer to that, each should build a rocket and just run an elimination Drag Race.
Sure, you can and will need to spend money to get a bike fully modded to the above specs., but what is the option that is policeable? SUPER MODIFIED
Senior riders only
Only for "Non Championship designated races, I.e:
May race as an exhibition class at Championship Meetings
May race as a separate class at local or club meetings
Only another batch of thoughts and ideas. I'm looking forward to seeing others contributions as well. Everyone involved should post their ideas so the guys who want to organise something nationally can make a decision based on what the majority of serious racers want
