Smile 49cc chinese 2 stroke from ebay questions :)

Hi everyone, i recently brought a 49cc chinese 2 stroke from ebay and will be moiunting it onto my scooter or bmx, i have some questions about it and i will be having many more questions as i proceed through the project.

First question is, Do you need to mount the engine in a particular way, and i understand that the crank will only spin one way and i have to be sure to mount it so that the drive will be forward. do these things have a top and bottem for example "this way up"???

in my understanding there is no fluid in the engine that needs to be anywhere so it wouldnt be a issue from what i can see unless i am overlooking something which wouldnt supprise me at all :P

Second Question is, what is cag engine? and do i have one?

please excuse my stupidity:P

yeah thats a 40cc cag engine. you need to mount it as you have it sitting on the table. with the front wheel of the bike pointing the the left of the picture. if you mount it upside down fuel will piss out the carburettor. youd need to get a walbro carb to run it upside down

looking at the pic the sprocket spins anti clockwise

"CAG" is a generic name for aircooled pocket bike engines. There's probably 150 factories in china that make exactly the same engine (exaggeration). They are a copy of a Czech manufactured pocket bike engine commonly known as a "Blata 2.5" They come in 2 types, either 40 or 50cc <or thereabouts>.

As glen said, the engine as it sits on your table is the right way up and the cylinder points to your front wheel and the carby to the rear. You will need to weld a mounting plate to your bike and fit an extra sprocket to your rear wheel to get to work.

"Cag" is short for "Cagllari/Daytona", and is a generic term for any Chinese-made minimoto. As these guys already said, you mount it exactly as you have it sitting there, pullstart on right, clutch bell and drive pinion on left, cylinder pointing towards front of bike. (You can run these things upside-down with a Walbro carb? Might have to try that someday just for fun.....)

Nice little mill ... may I be totally rude and ask how much you paid for it?

thanks guys.

so could i just rotate the carbi provided the fuel bowl is level? As the mount appears to be symetrical so to speak :P

without sounding likie a rude prick just so there is no confusion with any of my mounting questions, i fully understand that this motor will only crank one way (i just fiigured it would run the way the starter pulled it, logicaly), that is what had me thinking maybe rotate the carb and flip the motor upside down (if not keeping the pedels), i know the mounts are on the underside but i figured i could make a cube mount that the motor could slide into then bolted, but now i have the motor and have been inspecting my mounting options with my bmx and assesing the avaliable room.

if i use it on the bmx, i want to have the pedels and standard chain on the right hand side(wont have to flip and spin the motor) and the motor driven chain on the other side and have them geared so i use foot power to get to say (idealy)50ish and then have the motor geared at (idealy)9/60, i know this will more then likely stress the motor thats why i want to have the foot pedels to assist it.

if i use the scooter i will just have it geared 6/60 and get a second motor for the bmx and have it worked something horid.

I just need some transport for now basicly and my cousin is going to do some of the welding for me on thursday so i think it will be running as soon as the pipe gets here in a week or how ever long it takes to get here:P

Glen - if the add says 49cc and it is actually a 40cc shouldnt i complain about it to the seller? or should i beat my head against a wall for my stupidity?

TheClaw70 - thanks i understand now

Thanks everyone

i will start a thread to follow my project as it completes, heres a quick list of my goal,
15:1 high compresion head kit
10mm full circle crank
fiberglass reeds (if i cant find something better)
better bearings for everyone in the house
superlight flywheel (make from a stock one)
mod the clutchcover (put on layve and turn till it actualy looks even when it spins
relocate coill (maybe, and if i can find a better coil that too)
"tuned" pipe (wish me luck)
the best spark plug i can find(good thing its not a V8)

and i hope there is someone that has some pretty fancy homemade tools that could asist in making it go faster, lets hope this person is out there and has plenty of time on his hands

Ive been compiling all the information and tips and stuff i have come across and will upload it somewhere for people who are new to find it, i hope makes things easier for them.

IM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS PROJECT

i forgot to send my reply before work and then didnt see yours sorry mate.

But ofcause my good man it is no drama, i paid $61 for it and $20 postage, it was mailed on wednesday and i wasnt expecting it till the following week and it showed up on friday TWO DAYS LATER, i was stoked am still am.

I got it from ebay and actually didnt think i would win it. I have found that you can get worked motors on the web but none that have all of what i want.

Oh yeah i forgot to ask, do the coil packs on these things heat up? if not i want to move it so the air flow is better to the head from the fly wheel.

No, not really. The coil usually stays pretty cool. $81 shipped in two days? That's a record from ebay ...... usually it's a week or two, or more ...
