Angry 3 shoe clutch GRRRR....

I've just purchased a new 3 shoe clutch from my usual supplier and on arrival i've noticed it has steel clutch arms (as apposed to alloy) and weighs a ton. I have modified the 10 turn springs and they are extremely tight however the clutch engages just off idle. My standard clutch that the bike came with has better performance than this thing.

I'm assuming the steel arms are throwing out too early because of the weight of the arms. Has anyone run a steel clutch with some sort of performance? Can i trim down the arm "stops" a little so the clutch "compresses" a bit? I was thinking of trimming the bonding material also but this means it won't last as long.

Any thoughts as i am a little dissapointed as my dodgy stock clutch with dodgy springs has 10 times the performance as this brick?

Nah its a CAG clutch. The bonding compound is an orange colour. Deffinately has steel arms. Looks like it was made in the 60's.

unsure what would work besides trying to get some heavy duty springs to take the weight of the steel arms ??

try take some springs to a industrial supplies store they may have some heavy duty springs that may work but it will be a trial error to find the correct tension set

good luck hope ya find some to suit

maybe drill the arms to lighten them alittle? make sure you dont use a large drill bit, or buy some alloy arms ?

If all else fails i have a 3 shoe clutch (alloy) here..
