Angry smashing front sprockets

Well i think i need help.Assembled my BZM 50cc 6port kit.Did all the mods and some to cases.BIG job.fitted 10mm reed spacer and walbro 21mm carby with big air stack.MY problem is now it snaps off Polini/bzm front sprockets.I have snapped 2x6 tooth,1x 7 tooth,And even an 8 tooth. It gets on the pipe and afther about 3/4 times of doing that.BANG broken. How do i fix this problem.Dont have any trouble with me other bikes. But this one man has some serious HP.Even with 8/74 it wheeies and bang. This thing i might have to convert to sidecar so as i can ride the beast.Any info would be good.
Cheers
Beans :o)

Isn't there a process that will harden steel?? As in super heat the sprockets, then dip them in oil..

Or take them to someone who can do something similar ...

Is you front and rear sprocket lined up correctly, could be a problem. Also each time you snap a sprocket are you using the same chain, Might want to check these out, could have a tight link or the chain could be bowed after the first time you snapped a sprocket, just make sure they are all ok. most pinions are already hardened as far as I am aware. good luck with it dude

hey beans,

take a picture of the cross section of the sprocket, from that you can tell whether its broken due to hardness. if its very crystalline looking in the center then its probably broken due to over hardening which is quite possible.

ive had a few problems with overhardened shafts and things snapping off in my robots, and personally i fail to see the advantage of a hardened sprocket at all. as youve seen it helps none!

try tempering one of them..

heat it up to cherry red with a MAPP torch, drop it in oil, bring it back to cherry red again then put it in some lime to slowly cool. should do the trick.

if your shearing teeth i think your up **** creek without a paddle and will have to go to thicker chain! that or try checking how much slack is in the setup, if theres a fair bit the motor may be accelerating with such force its shearing the thing when its taking up slack.

in my etek bike im using twin #40 roller chain from an EA falcons cam shaft, gotta get serious with serious power

take it easy..
