Riding on the road..... Maybe think twice!

I'm right into my 4wd's (my other hobby) and have come accross a thread in a forum i belong to regarding a new law passed in Victoria.....

Outer Limits 4x4 Board :: Log in

It's interesting to see what other people think about riding on streets. Interesting read tho...

should see what our local council had done. Due to the 40 odd complaints a weekend about unregistered thumpsters and alike being ridden around the streets at all hours the council has enacted a new local law.

New Local Law: Frankston Internet - No More Monkey Business

any unregistered motorbike found being ridden on Municipal land or a road within the council boundaries can be confiscated and towed away on the spot.

$200. fine to the rider.

$550. storeage and towing fee to the owner which must be paid in 7 days.

If paid owner can pick up the machine in 6 MONTHS. If not paid, it is CRUSHED.

6 bikes seized today.

One of the Carrum Downs locals spoken to on the 6th of October was asked whether he was going to stop riding his motorbike..response..." Don't give a *****"

His Honda was seized today. Council doesn't give a *****.

Pity as I used to ride around the same area 25 years ago but it was just paddocks. All the paddocks are estates now and people are living in each others shadows. Damned shame as they are good fun but ..
The Guy that posted it is a cop

wtf? towed ?

And holdens are ok, i just think that unless your using a 4wd for the purpose in which they are intended is a waste of time and money, they dont belong on suburban roads either as the were designed and built primarily for off duties (as far back as WW1), theres plenty of reasons for this, foremost being the centre of gravity changes (causing most to roll over), and the inability of most to pull up in emergency situations...

I think hudson44 is talking about real 4x4´s being used what they were designed for, not range rovers and lexus´s on the school/work run being driven by people who who have no idea how to control a large vehicle.

In re: to the thread starter, DON´T GET CAUGHT DO´ING THE WRONG THING!!! Treat the area and residents with some respect! (and pick the right place) I spend @ lot of time talking to people passing by when I go riding. Create a bit positive publicity, explain that its a good clean hobby.
By the way, I do think those laws are BS, but take a little personal responsibility and think! If you go tearing up and down my street @ nite I would call the cops too.
