spockets...

hi all,

when talking about sprockets... what does it mean "to add the low end and top end of your bike"???

for example i got from viperformance.com.au

42 TOOTH ALUMINUM SPROCKET KIT WILL ADD TO THE LOW END OF YOUR 4/STROKE X7 BIKE

33 TOOTH ALUMINUM SPROCKET KIT WILL ADD TO THE TOP END OF YOUR 4/STROKE X7 BIKE

and how does this spocket give you more speed???

22 TOOTH ALUMINUM SPROCKET KIT WILL ADD OVER 10 MPH TO YOUR 4/STROKE X7 BIKE

thanks

Its all about gear ratios, LARGER sprocket on the back= lower gear ratio (like first gear in a car), gives faster acceleration but lower top speed.
SMALLER sprocket on the back= higher gear ratio (like third gear in a car) give slower acceleration but higher top speed. You can also change the front sprocket but it works the opposite way ie. bigger front sprocket= higher top speed, smaller front sprocket= lower top speed but better acceleration. Changing 1 tooth on the front (eg. from a 6-7tooth) will change the gearing by about the same amount as changing 7-8 teeth on the rear. Be aware that making large gearing changes will probably need a longer chain. Hope this helps.

Matt.

Send a message via MSN to Teamsherman
Bottom end = acceleration.

Top end = top speed/highest speed.
