| | | Newbie with a cluch problem?
Hi all,
Im new to all this, having just picked up a CAG from a lawn sale here in Alice Springs. I couldnt get it running, so took it all apart, put it all back together, cleaning as i went, and now its going nicely. Still a bit dirty, but thats ok!
I used a lot of tips from posters on this website, so thankyou for helping me get it running again!
Now I have a question myself!
Im a big unit - 130kg and 6 foot 3, - and unfortunately this doesnt really mix with a pocket bike - however, Im sure there are other big fellas out there who ride them - at least I hope so! - and Im keen to make some mods to the bike to make it better to stand up to me!
Apart from losing weight, what suggestions do you have? Im thinking the cluch will need replacing sooner rather then later, as unless I push off, it just slips, soo I figure that will go soon. Any suggestions?
I dont/cant go racing with it as there is no racing up here, so its just for a big boys toy, but at the same time I want something that will make it a bit worth it!
Thanks and take it easy!
Mick

well you have ruled out your best option loosing weight the only thing i can think of is running a euro clutch and bell and they are not cheap

If its just for fun... engines are only $50 - 100... even if you went thru 2 engines a year for flogging around.. would that still not be worth it... I think you have other things to worry about than the reliability of a cag clutch.. I dont think there is anything wrong with a normal clutch..
Its the other way around with a cag, the heavier you are the sh%%er clutch you need for reliability...
you would really be better off trying to make the frame stronger & making sure everythings tight everytime... if its just for buggerin around on..! upgrade simple things & get everything spinning sweet..
oh, & yeah, push off everytime, if you dont you'l pay the price... check your reeds...
it sounds like you are losing torque or somethings not letting your clutch engage..ie: too lean, broken spring, airleak.. its not the actual clutch causing this...

oh & thats the other thing, if your clutch isnt running a timingkey or you took the clutch off during the clean up... make sure its bolted on tight... tight as... use a big screwdriver wedged in the flywheel to lock the motor while you do it.. but it needs to be tighter than an ebay cag buyer.... ;-p

Thanks Morty,
I didnt touch the clutch side of things, wasnt confident with it and didnt want to damage it!
Any suggestions to make it a little bigger? 6 foot 3, its a bloody long way down! I saw on youtube a fella who put a wooden spacer on it to just make it a little taller.
In any case, I taught my young foster son (7 years old and Aspergers Syndrome) to ride it today - a very proud father indeed!
Also, suggestions from where to buy engines from? Just for future reference!
All the best!
Mick

I have them for 80 .. pocket bike parts have them for 90 or I can build new engines with good bearings & seals, carbon reeds, etc.. for between $150 - $200...
