5 port limits ? *thread defiled by the Grammar Nazi*

For those who run an air-cooled 40cc 5 port engine (BZM 620, Blata Elite R) with a 14mm SHA Dellorto carburetor attached, how much does it take (adding performance parts to a standard engine) until the engine hits a performance 'wall'?
What I mean by that is at what point does the engine reach its PEAK power with the 14mm carburettor so that whatever you put into it (race crank, porting etc) WILL NOT allow the bike to go any faster because the 14mm carburettor is restricting it ?

Cheers
Josh

This is a good question. I believe it may be difficult to answer. I can't imagine you will be able to find that much more power in the air-cooled engine though considering it is already over 10 horsepower and the water-cooled do 15.

I would say that the only way to know would be flow test a carburetor to work out the maximum CFM it is able to flow and then doing the displacement X RPM calculation to see what the maximum CFM of the engine would be.

Personally I have never tried with a air-cooled but there’s a young guy that rides a Blata R that’s stock and he rides pretty hard and have never heard this bike hit the pipe hard. It is actually quiet a strong bike off the pipe. The track is only very small so it may be difficult for the bike to accelerate to the speed required to hit the power band. Mac90’s method of calculating maximum CFM sounds like the best plan but may be expensive to test.

Sir. Your incoherent gibberish has given me a headache. If you do that again I must challenge you to a dual.

Yes me too. Perhaps try using the full stop button every once and awhile. That would be smashing!

My deepest appologies fellow forum users. I much distest typing so will do my darndest to use a full stop every once and awhile. I do understand what you mean though gentlemen. I tried to read what I had typed and was confused at the fact that I appeared to be making a statement rather than asking a question.
