making the banshee purty

soo exams are finally over, and i have no commitments for the next 4 months..woooo
therefore its time to work on this bike
will post some pics up in the next couple of days.. at the moment, the banshee is in bits on the floor of my room/workshop =P
work done/going to be done:
  • brake calipers are painted mat black
  • radiator is about to be prepped to paint, along with its mount
.
  • exhaust and rims are at the shop being sand blasted and powder coated mat black.exhaust will have heat proof paint
  • will be heading over to pro dirt in the next couple of days to pick up some new fairings to paint up.
  • need to mount my steering damper
  • replace throttle cable
  • add wheel strips once they are back from the shop
  • clean up frame, motor, etc etc etc with a tooth brush =P
  • then put it allllll back together and sticker it up

dont know if ill be able to have it all done by the weekend though the guy at the paint shop estimated it will be done on monday...which is a bit gay, but it did look like a pretty big, busy kinda place so oh well. originally he wasnt gonna paint the exhaust for me, as the powder coat would just melt off, but he said if i drop the heat proof stuff off to them, they will paint it for me and chuck it in the oven to cure it for me...
DAMN PMT'S!!!! so friggin hard to get off. i spent 10 mins on them and just quit...ended up taking them to a tyre shop down the road, they had them off in 5 mins and charged me nothing they said they'll put em back on for me to wooo.

to mount the steering damper i think im gonna drill the frame and bolt the mount through, and connect it straight up to the forks. originally i was gonna use the mounting hole for the fairings, but i think i might run full fairings so that rules that out.
still tossed up as to whether i paint on the wheel strips, or gets stickers made up off ebay. i think it would actually be easier to paint, cause if you put the stickers on a bit off, it looks like ur wheel has a wobble to it.
over all scheme will be mat black and lime green...havnt chosen a number yet =P

as for performance, i wont be changing or uprgrading anything yet. wanna keep it stock for std watercooled class. maybe by next year, depending on how the funds are going, and how im going riding, ill work the engine more and move up to pro, but for now it goes pretty hard and is enough to start out with.

even if its not finished for the weekend, ill probably be out at archy anyways with my mate as his dreambike should be good to go by then.

matt

sounds awesome mate, get some pics up asap when its done, should like wicked. ozminimoto has the wheel tape, they look awesome, plenty of bikes going around with them on

what damper are you using? if your using the short kind you can mount it to the bracket the water bottle mounts to and its nice and concealed.

if its the cag ones im pretty sure the fairings will still fit on if you use the fairing mount.

ah bugger, if you can grab the bolt with some vice grips it might come out easy, worse case dremel a slot in the top of the broken off bolt and use a flat head to wind it out. saves having to go to the effort of redrilling and tapping.

think i may have some of those fairing mounts spare. ill have a look for them

Here's a suggestion. With the top bolt on the radiator mount, slip a couple of thin washers in there to push the radiator forward so's its around 5mm off the tyre. This will make it a poo load easier when you need to pop out the spark plug.

Also, check to see the plumbing on the radiator is hooked up the correct way. Glen put up a post recently regarding that.

If you are REALLY feeling adventureous, get a couple of BZM red springs and pop them into your banshee clutch <thats if doesnt already have them or unless you are running a dreambike crank, get a euro clutch>

Small things make big differences.

P.S. When you get them PMT's on, chuck 25 psi in the front and 20 in the rear.

Now, bring that Banshee to WCR in 2 weeks and race me

25 in the front but i weigh mid 80's. If your a skinny kid try 22. 20 in the rear...no less. This combo works nice on pmt r front and a 43 rear. I suggest you do the same. These tyres give maximum traction and on a banshee, you need it. ESPECIALLY around Archy as it is an extremely demanding circuit. You also need to work on your riding style. I suggest leaning your shoulder into the corners as oppsed to hanging off. This will help stabilise your ride without excessive weight distribution. The pair will cost you around $230 to $250 depending on the retailer and are well worth it. You should also have a fiddle with the gearing. Dont know what you have but i found a 6 front way too tall for archy. The combo of 7 68 to 72 rear may help with acceleration around that twisty track you ride. Don't be afraid to have a look at what other folk have on their bikes but take into account that the more experienced will gear up a lot higher as they are better riders.

Small steps, egg-man. You'll get there.

And i believe WCR is just around the corner from you Ask Morty for directions, or perhaps a lift.
