Smile Days of old

Hi to all
Was looking on the YouTube when I came across this. I think it was from 2007 in NSW...These guys look like they were having a heap of fun.
This looks like the days of old when there were no BS politics in the Minimoto world..just pure fun.
Mind you, where they were racing did however have the potential for disaster should a rider come undone.
Would be great to get back to this type of racing....riding for fun.....at a very minimal cost..and loving ever moment of it

Here's the link YouTube - Pocket bike racing round 7 ORS

Fun

Your 100% right andy, thats the reason mini moto racing become so popular back then is was low cost, and just about the fun factor, anyone could afford to get into the sport and riding these bikes was low cost in every sense of the word , i think we all would agree the elite euro bikes are far superior in every sense compared to the basic cag but its only a small percentage that can offord and will want to spend that type of money on a pocket bike if the sport is to grow and flourish and attract new younger riders for the future even more so now in the current economic climate it must return to the basic cheap fun it was years back . We now see the euro bikes getting up to the $7000 to $10,000 price thats not a problem for many of the senior guys who want to and can offord them but for a new young rider getting into the sport there aint too many parents willing to spend that type of money , theres also issues with many tracks now costing over $50 for a days riding per person in some cases that will cost parents $100 + for 2 kids to have a ride on a pocket bike we only have to look at the aka to see what happened to them back in the early days we had basic yamaha j and k motors cheap realiable then we seen the introduction more expensive rotax leopard etc the people dropped away due to the cost factor involved and they no longer had fun it become more about how expensive it was to race and be at the top end of the field

2 cents worth

Hey Andy and Paul Nice to see ya's on here again. Imho the trouble with the cag theory is that (and no offence to cag fans) cags are a bit puss on a bigger track and no one wants to ride em. It becomes all about the motor, whereas at pooraka it didn't matter what you rode, you always felt like the next lap could be quicker than the last if you put your balls on the line.

Ohh yeah, brings back memories of when i first started out on a cag and me and crash dummy along with about another 10 people used to hold fortnightly meets at a carpark of a uncompleted shopping center, until we got moved along by security for the 3rd and last time, was a sad sad day
Was great fun while it lasted though

Smile

hey paul hows things mate ?? i agree in some way with wat your saying but cost of tracks and limited places to ride those sorta things will never change no matter wat we do, minimoto's are deamed to dangerous to be let in carparks or on most track's and i think most people who have tried to get on other tracks would agree not many will take the risk with us and thats manily because people have hurt them selves and sued!! mostly from some kid who buys a 2 dollar ebay cag (lol) and rides it on the rode and somthing goes wrong from there... the other point about price on bikes well like you sed it has goten very costly but we have cag classes because they are cheap to build and maintain buts it like any form of racing if you want to race competitively you have to have a good bike weather it be a SQ cag with good engine and tyres or a grc with all the fast bits i think with any sport if you wana be at the front of the pack you have to spend the money for wat ever class, the fun aspect for alot of people is the healthy competition that others bring to the sport, with most types of racing thats why we have classes for people too choose wat type of class they want to race in every class has a base line budget and wat ever class it may be they can afford is where they should pick to be.. imo any way just my 2 cents guys no punt intended paul cheers

Minimoto racing is fun no matter what machines people ride..

But 100% agree that CAG racing, for around 60-70% of the Australian minimoto population started on them, it is also what most juniors start out on and that all clubs should support it..

As for price, it depends what you class is cheap and how much is to much.. Is there clubs that charge $50 for juniors??

Hey Pocket Wog
These Guys looked like they had a heap of fun...its a shame that our community has little tolerance for pocket bikes..even guys like those in the video and most of us that are on this forum who try to do the right thing and organise a semi safe environment to ride and race at get labelled as pest. All BS aside about insurance...I think people have lost touch about safety and use this as an excuse in certain cases to stop our sport from going further and just to be FUN POLICE!
Here in SA there is a push to have the import of Mini bikes banned
Rather than address the problem that there are a lack of facilities here( SA) for people to ride at for a reasonable cost..they are looking at banning pocket bikes.
I do however realize that there is an element of riders who do create havoc on the road and certainly don't help our us in the way we are seen.
As for the Goverment Department that is trying to ban pocket bikes ..well goodluck to them with that...But..I still have a welder and a heap of parts and if they ban the import of them...will make my own pocket bikes.
Pocket Wog ...like you said the 3rd time was a sad,sad day...I hope that this is not indicitive of what is to come in our sport.
To the rest of the riders left in SA..I say don't just sit on your lorals and think that we have one track we ride on..as that may disappear one day and we would be left with nothing.
Just on a positive note the guy who took the footage "Ninja Bro" did a great job of filming and even made a trailer for a pocket bike movie that looked as good as any Spielburg movie LOL...The title of the movie "A WEE BIT FASTER.
Here's the link to that YouTube - Pocket bike movie A wee bit Faster Trailer

Pocket Wog do you know if these guys are still around in NSW and did they ever finish the movie?

hey andy i could not agree more with the last bit of your post we should not rely on our one and only track we all need to look at other options two even if it be a track that we only get a few meets on each year its still adding to our agenda and i think if we get more chances to ride maybe we will gain more people to the sport and at the same time hope too keep the ones we got!!
