Chasing more info please

Hey guys,

Been interested in pocket bikes since i was a kid and have always had other hobbies to spend my time on. I never realised there was such a following for them other then the $500 Chinese bikes. Recently I came across a couple for sale that were dirt cheap and when asking my mate where he got his from he offered me his for $100. Its only a chinese one from what i can gather. Waiting for my mate to get back to me with a brand/model/engine size. i have attached a pic so if anyone can tell me more that would be great.
I know lakeside only has practice days though what class would this bike be?

I've read through the forum and only wish i could afford a competitive better quality bike like this Selling up. New years bargain sale!!!
though for $100 its a bike my 7yr old son can ride also when the time comes.

So the cost of an AASA licence and track day/practice fee seems pretty fair.
What other costs are involved. I have a dirt bike helmet. Do i need to have race leathers or are jeans etc ok?
I just want to have a fun ride once or twice a month and although the 100km round trip is daunting it is better then getting picked up by the cops or hit by a car from riding on the road or car parks.

Thanks in advance

Al

Hi Alan,

What you have is a Chinese 40 or 50cc CAG, they are a great bike for a beginer to learn the ropes, ideal for your son who can ride at age 7..

Leathers are not mandatory but recomended.. Jeans, enclosed shoes, heavy jacket, gloves, helmet and knee/elbow pads is the minimum requirement..

Seeing as though there is no racing anymore at Lakeside, you would basically go out with any other pocket bike.. To be honest though, we don't get and pocket bike riders anymore.. They are more than welcome if they wanted to, but pocket bike riding/racing has completely died in QLD and every other state with the exception of WA.. There is also Archerfield who allows for racing but they are also struggling for riders, reading results posted they are lucky to get 3-5 juniors at race meets..
This forum has gone very quite due to the fact the "sport/hobby" is in a massive low and has been for some time now..

At Lakeside we also cater for MiniMotards, Postie Bikes, Scooters, SuperMoto and Motolites/Superlites/Buckets.. We get around 12-25 riders from these other classes..
It's just about having fun in a safe place and is very relaxed..

If you want to bring it out and have a ride please do so..

Thanks Glen,

Its a shame that pocket bikes have pretty much died. Driving 1hr to ride around by myself isn't too appealing. Would i be able to ride with any other bikes or are they too fast?

"Leathers are not mandatory but recomended.. Jeans, enclosed shoes, heavy jacket, gloves, helmet and knee/elbow pads is the minimum requirement.."

I'll be right for everything except a heavy jacket and gloves. Will good old roller blade/skateboard style knee and elbow pads do? Also i have heavy mechanic gloves that will protect me enough.
