Parklands closed by Gold Coast City Council

Her is an extract about the immediate closure of Parklands on the Gold Coast.

"There has been a lot of speculation tonight and Steve Cosson has asked me to post on his behalf regarding racing at Parklands.

Parklands Kart Racing will be closed until further notice.

The Gold Coast Council have placed this restriction on the Venue.

This venue has intruduced the PB sport to QLd and in more recent times, long with the PBAA unselfishly and at great cost supported Junior riding to get the bikes of the streets and in to a safe and controlled environment

Steve, others and I have been in discussion tonight and we ask from all of you the following:

Support this venue and what it has done for the community and the kids.

Don't lobby the Council directly. Any support needs to be united and individuals venting their anger will only be detrimental to solving this - Either post on this forum or the other one, so your voice can be copied and forwarded or Email your support to steve@pocketracer.com.au

I am shattered as I know Steve is and you all will be, but lets unite and work together to get this (especially) Junior sport back to the Gold coast

Alan
PBAA Inc"

and From Steve, Track owner

"hi everyone, its steve, ill try to explain although im at a loss myself, in more ways then one.
it seems all this started at the time of the fight over 40 cc and 500 for juniors, several calls and a fax(all anonymous of course) were recieved at parklands headquarters saying we were puting kids at risk etc, which is ironic since ive always said that the euro bikes are too fast for the kids but lets not get into that. dince then we have had one noise complaint, not from the bikes but from pete rambling on after everything else had gone quiet, feel free to punch him for me. then an overzealous council worker decided to look further and found that we had not the required zoning for "motor racing" at parklands and thus has shut us down until the mandatory impact studies, advertising to attract opponents etc has been done. which will take around six months, at best. they have deemed that the hire of karts and bikes is also racing and as such we cant even do that, so to plan b.
plan b will be that we gather as many letters of support and people telling their story of how they have spent x amount on bikes and gear and dont ride on the street anymore etc and we take those letters and a petition or two and e make some noise with the media and see what we can do. myself and alex and alan will be at the council in the next few days to try to bring some resolution to this, will keep you posted. so get writting, please. steve.
bring it on, steve."

Try some spelling lessons as well cause your posts don't make sense. Spelling like you do is just plain crappy.

parklands

My son and i have been here for 6 months now we came over from England, we used to ride our bikes over there we have 2 B1 Origami's and we would like to ride them here, we were going to go to park lands but have just found out that its shut, where else is there to ride on the gold coast?
this happened in England 2 to 3 years ago the councils didn't like people riding these bikes on go kart tracks, they said they were dangerous and noisy!
the problem was when they started to shut them down the kids had no where to go and ended up in car parks and industrial estates, this only put kids in more danger, in England there were even reports of kids being killed because they were riding them on the road.
Does the council want this to happen here?
now they are getting more and more popular here if there are no tracks to ride on this problem will only escalate and get out of control.
So be sensible and give us all some where to ride, i am sure the police have enough to do with out chasing people riding pocket bikes around the streets.
