That's all good. Kooky I agree with you completely. I can feel the difference with my finger easily. The way i have the set now makes the first stage of the reed opening very easy compared to tight as hell with the reeds set up the "wrong" way. But at the same time I think everyone here is right. How so ?
The quality and manufacturing processes probably vary's so much between different brands that one triple set might work well in one configuration and terrible in another while another set may do the complete opposite. Then you might get another set that generates no real difference between configurations.
I don't get to regularly run against any other bike so it's really hard to do back to back testing against another bike. Despite me owning 3 bikes i can't convince anyone to ride one. GRRRRRRRR

I need a dyno :P

I just got an idea.. When I get my Cag running again I will put my digital tacho on it that I use on my go-kart and try both reed setups and take it up the same long stretch of road near my place and look at the recorded highest rpm from each run. Just waiting for air filter and mount to arrive from ozminimoto and gotta make new exhaust bracket.

It's just one of those things mate. Sometimes I can have something apart and just stare at it for a minute and then I just click and say hang on.... What's going on here.
In my case i thought about my bike's lack of urge to go down low and why that would happen then came to the conclusion that it could very well be my reeds causing it.

Remember this change in reed setup won't exactly change your maximum achievable revs but will greatly increase your rate of acceleration. Run the tach still but put down 3 markers. Get someone on the sideline with a stop watch to time how long it takes for you to reach the first check point (check your revs at the same time) and how long it takes to reach the end (check your revs again). Write down your results and post them back along with the gearing your using. That will give us a very accurate result as to what happens when you change the reed setup.

As I have found out sometimes the bum dyno is wrong as your bike can actually be very slow despite feeling extremely fast due to the way the power band works. My fastest bike to date was the slowest feeling one to ride because it was so smooth in it's power band instead of being a vicious animal that suddenly springs to life and tries to gouge your eyes out.

Lightbulb reed test

ok i have made a reed by cutting the old stainless tin reed to the shape of the triple plate bending to shape & installing it behind another standard tin set
i cant remember what engine i installed it in but ill pull it out tomorrow and do some testing with 3 different reed setups
one the triple made from stock tin reeds
number 2 will be a fibreglass reed
and number 3 is a genuine euro brand name single carbon fibre reed with a modified reed block to fit it to

my first set of triples were the first of the cheap nasty chinese triples that were on ebay all of last year for $20-$29
they are fine for a slightly modified cag they worked well on a stock 49cc bike with 14/14 carb & stock pipe they lasted 1 year

But when i upgraded my cag with 15:1 boost ported head kit squish set to .7 full circle crank, jet pro rep pipe & A genuine WT-603A walbro it just revved its titts off & broke off the thiner piece on the triple plate in 2 short rides

so i will let you all know my results when im done sorting things out ill have to do all my testing on the same bike & stopwatch only changing the reeds & blocks and see if i can get any info out of it to help with 3 different reeds setups on the same bike so onlu reeds & reed & reed blocks will be changed for my mild to worked cag bike

ill have to try catch up with green machine if he isnt working to have someone else from the forum to truthfully give you the results

Sounds good Mac. I'm looking forward to seeing the results.
I'm going to be rebuilding my hot engine back into the Samurai frame with a walbro rep carby and Jetpro S-bend rep pipe and see if i can get the bugger finally dialed in. I'll keep you all posted as to any results but I may not get to do it before I go in for my surgery. I'll try though.. Promise
If it works as good as I'm told it should this thing should be a monster.

For a final laugh if do get the chance I will be doing a direct engine swap between my bikes. Everything in my sig will go into the Samurai frame along with the sbend pipe and walbro.
And i'll put the samurai's 39cc engine into the F2 fitted with the fatboy pipe and a set of fibreglass reeds. Nothing else. That engine is as stock as a rock.
