How to Change front sprocket?

G'day,
was wondering how people change front sprockets? I've noticed when i took to fly wheel off that the front sprocket is welded on. Is there an easy way of changing it without the use of a welder?
thanks!

I don't know about your bike but most front sprockets are not welded on.They are threaded. To remove the actual sprocket you will need either a sprocket wrench or a Gator socket.(available at Bunnings). The way I removed mine was to first remove the clutch housing. Then I drilled a 6mm hole in the front of the clutch housing through one of the slots.I then refitted the clutch housing to the bike. Then I put a screwdriver through the hole and with the Gator socket undid the sprocket.Refitting is the reversal of removing. Some people put locktite on the thread but I didn't and haven't had any problems so far.Hope this helps. Here is a pic of the clutch housinghttp://store.carterraceengines.com/clho47.html

hi you will likey find that the weld you talk about is just a tack to stop the sprocket undoing. i use a drill press to drill the weld off then unscrew like mentioned before. i don't use loctite either i use antiseize to assist with removal later & haven't had a need to use loctite on them yet.

RD RACING is an unknown quantity at this point
yes as mentioned but there is no need to drill into the caseing if you notice the clutch drum has to semi circular type holes machined into the drum, put two pieces of steel, whatever fits into a vice at the same spaceings as these holes and this will be your anchor for the undoing process. hope you can understand this.
never clamp the perimeter of the drum in a vise.

Thats another way of doing it but the way I have done it I can change the front sprocket with the clutch housing still on the bike. This way I can quickly change gear ratio for different tracks.I have a 6 tooth and a 7 tooth sprocket and I'm getting a 8 tooth sprocket next.
