| barrell gasket or gaskets i have just started striping done a 49cc reed engine mainly just to replace all stock bearings and seals with good quality ones and have noticed the barrell has been fitted with 2 gaskets, i don,t know if this is common with the cheap chineese engines, if any one has noticed there barrell has 2 gaskets instead of the normal one gasket, replace the gasket to a single.
i can see why they have done this, reason being one gasket only and the bottom of the barrell will touch the crankcase top internal, rather than machine 25 to 30 thou from the bottom of barrell they used an extra gasket to take up space. your engine will gain more compression which intern means more power if only use a single gasket and shave off 25 to 30 thou [about half a mm] it would be also beneficial to shave 2 mm from the internal side of the top section of exhaust port. this is the method i will be doing. this is not my engine and we wan,t to keep it reliable for the young owner, the gain in power should be noticable.
if you have 2 gaskets together it should measure approx, 50 thou or 1 mm
remmember if you do any shaving / grinding to the bottom of the barrell, make sure this is taken from the rounded sections [2 of] not the flat base section where the bolts go through. o.k |
