| racers & non racers take note. i would just like to let you guys know of the importance of a good sealing pipe, especially at the exhaust manifold end which seems to be the problemed area as i have seen. my prefered method when fitting a pipes manifold header to the exhaust engine area is firstly make 100% sure that both surfaces are as clean as possible, then if you have some high temp silicon sealant or simular apply this to both sides of the new or good manifold gasket then tighten up the 2 manifold bolts to about 3/4 tension [ not fully ] waite approx 12 hours or overnight then apply the full torque pressure to these 2 bolts. when there are leaks in any areas of the pipe your engines power will suffer more than thought, to me a perfect pipe seal is when you can blow through the stinger end [ not muffler ] with the piston set at tdc which is at the top close to the sparkplug, [ top dead center ] and if you can feel pressure with your lungs by doing this slight blowing into , you have the perfect seal, this is also a good test to see if there are any pin holes in your pipe, soapy water test. so really if your engines barrell looks abit dirty and black around this manifold area you know what you must do. |
