8) Hi All.... time to make this a sticky, please add any info you can. I will try to go over this thread and pick out all the good bits and keep them near the top. Enjoy!!!

if you have a stock cag engine and wan't it to go better, try this. these are some mods i have done and the result is worth the effort, exhaust port to be 1mm wider on both sides= total of 2mm total width, top of port to be 2mm higher , make sure you put a slight chamfer to the inner port area after grinding so your piston rings don,t get ruined. the piston can be ground out inside to minimise weight. delete the barrell gasket and use a thin film of high temp blue silicon. while you have the cylinder off the engine its a good time to remove the flywheel. clutch, reed block and undo the 4 bolts in the crankcase then remove those horrible crankcase bearings and seals and replace both with nsk matching brands , this change in bearings / seals will assist your engine in both less friction and longer lasting. when putting the crankcase halves back together add a thin film of silicon to the case gasket for a top seal. before you re fit the flywheel you should try a timing key [ rocket key ] which will advance your ignition timing by around 10 degress, now the stock TIN reeds must go and be replaced with fibreglass reeds. last of all is the stock carby / air filter and a better pipe, the carbs main jet needs to be around 70 to 72 the main needle needs to be raised to 2 clips from the bottom, the stock air filter must be replaced with a good one and the stock pipe must go and be fitted with a fatboy pipe. also you must replace your stock fuel filter with a good type. if you perform these needed mods make sure all is very clean of any metalic fragments and re oil all internal parts before assembly, this will ensure both yourself and your pride of joy [the engine] will be happy and last alot longer than it would have. plus use good 2 stroke oil, 25 to 1 mineral based for run in period of atleast 4 tank fulls then you can go to 40 to 1 synthetic with premium unleaded fuel. [ DON,T OVER REV YOUR ENGINE UNTIL ITS RUN-IN.
it may vibrate more or less, depending on how well u remove the fins and flatten the stumps.
it will affect cooling in so far as at idle it will be hotter, on the road it shouldn't really matter. just dont go overboard.

by rights a slightly lighter flywheel should not vibrate as much as a heavier flywheel, by removing every 2 nd fin i feel this will not effect the balance much or any atall. as for running hotter, i have found no difference. if you are not sure of balance you can buy a balancer from a good hobby shop about $50. these are used in the hobby for balancing things like, propellors, rotors ect. by the way every cag flywheel i have checked has been well out of balance. [not totally round]
good post, helps people learn more about there bikes without just spending heaps on boltons go fast bits.
you can tell your mates when you blow then away, built not bought.
Another Cheap Tip " Add a 6mm spacer between your exhaust port and exhaust this will increase your exhaust port and add to your bottom end, changing the tuned length of your pipe will also add to mid range and if you have a good pipe like a bazooka the noticeable performance will be across the torque range. Have Fun
No, lightning the flywheel will have no effect at all on the power that the engine makes or doesn't make. Changing the flywheel weight will only affect how fast the engine can pick up or lose RPM, all other things being equal.

ive lighten my fly wheel. i took off every second fin with pliers n filed it down with a file. i dont t think u need to balance it. ive been running the fly wheel with every 2nd fin gone, for about 2months and it has no effect on cooling and vibration. it slightly spools faster but not much. i recommend lightening ya fly wheel if ya have time on ya hands.
i was always told that when you lighten a flywheel, it cant quite build up the momentum for top end revs as well as a heavier one. is this some mis-information i was given or can a mechanic back me up.
i realise that people have obviously tried it and had positive results, but in theory, is what i was told correct?
