CARBIE CLEANING THE EASY WAY

Next time you have your airfilter off for a clean.. start up the bike
and spray some good name brand carbie cleaner straight into the inlet
but GO EASY not too much just a couple sprays will do ..then turn off
bike and then put everything back on.This will ensure that you dont
have to pull apart your whole carbie and clean it manually in the
near future....(if this step is done every time you clean your filter
you may not ever have to pull your carbie apart at all) !! aslong as
you clean your filter/carbie regularl, depends on how/where you
ride .. dirt track type roads i would be cleaning every month..

hope this helps.... :-D

cleaning carby.

I'm not too sure that spraying carby clean (any brand) through the carb and into the motor while it is running is a real good idea. Have you ever used carb clean to remove oil and crud from parts? It disperses oil like nothing else and what do you think will happen to the oil on the main bearings and the oil that forms the protective layer between the piston rings and cylinder?

Just ask any outboard mechanic what happens to motors when people frequently spray CRC or INOX around under the engine cover after a day out when the outboard engine is still running and they will tell you that the engines wear ''BAD''. CRC or INOX is extremely mild compared to "CARBY CLEAN" so I can only imagine what damage it does.

Disregarding the damage that this will cause the engine, there is no way that simply squirting carby clean down the throat of the carby can remove rubbish from the needle and seat or the fuel bowl or the main jet which are the main parts of the carby that need cleaning.

If Pocket Bike owners out there aren't willing to take my word for this, please ask your local small motors mechanic and he will confirm everything that I have just said. Give this practice a BIG miss guys!

So what's the point?

Ok, so what's the point of even only spraying a little bit of this stuff through the carb while the engine is running? (carby clean aint cheap)

At best, any dirt or crap that made it through the air filter and got lodged at this part of the carb would be helped straight into the engine along with a dose of oil dispersing carby clean (even with just a little bit).

Any dirt or crap that causes carb performance problems, 99.9 percent of the time will be be found at the needle and seat, in the bowl, or in the main jet. Squirting carb clean through the throat of the carb does squat to help with removing rubbish from these places.

Look I'm not having a go at you, and I'm sure that everyone appreciates your advice. I am just saying that when you stop and consider the potential for damage with this practice when weighed up against any possible benefit (if any), it is better to just remove the carby, pull it apart and clean it properly. You also learn more this way.

damn i fell sorry for you kingpin it seems everyone is trying to contradict ya. but just remember you never stop learning and in my opinion anyone that thinks they know everything and cant see and learn from their mistakes will never see their full potential.
if my carbie is getting dirty i clean it properly and think about why the dirt is getting in there in the first place.

I have to agree with Ren and will confirm a big NO on this kind of action!
Ren is right where he points out the 2 main areas for dirt to be in the carb and a pull down and clean and reassembly with a carb overhaul kit if anything is damaged is recomended.

hey guys im just getting round to these post... spraying carby cleaner down the throat of the carby is pretty bad while the motor is running unless u would like your hand burnt from a back fire? caused by flooding the motor not a good idea also the "cold" carby spray in the can, can do alot of damage like crack the sleve, scratch the sleve, spit the little or big end bearings out... and there is no way it would clean the carby... the only way to clean the carby would to be pull it apart.... the only time a spray should be used to spray down the throat of the carby is to "fog" your motor just before u store it away for a few months or if some how u manage to get water into the motor and u cannot get it to start u should spray WD-40 into the motor while the spark plug lead is removed and motor should be turned ok enough raving on i have alot of tricks up my sleve that i have been gathering over the years
