Fatboy Pipe extra power.

investing in a good pipe like the fatboy, there are 2 things that must be done for this pipe to work even better. what we have is a 20mm i.d. circlular hole cut into the pipes manifold and when we look at the cylinders exhaust exit, we have a rectangle shaped section which is 25mm wide. so if we put this manifold gasket, the type with the 20mm center hole up against the cylinder exhaust you will notice something is not right ie; a circle to a rectangle doesn,t match. this does not help the pipe / engine perform how it should as 1/5th of the exhaust is blocked off. to fix this is very simple, all you will need to do is replace this gasket with the normal cag type [rectangle center ]and file or grind out the circle section on the pipes manifold to match the same shape as your cylinder exhaust or new gasket. the idea of this exercise is to have a good flowing exit then entry into the pipe with NO restrictions to stop this. plus don,t forget to use some silicon sealant on both sides of your gasket plus abit of lock tite on the manifold bolts.

Great info as usual dude

I saw that restriction when i was fitting my fatboy. I also had major clearance issues with the spark plug. I made up a spacer out of some 25mm mild steel that offset the mounting position, giving me the needed clearance. I also shapped it throught the centre like the rectangle exhaust port. Its not real pretty but it does the job great!

Mark is that how that sits? Exactly how it is in the Picture? I did'nt use the Springs, I Welded my Pipes together, you'll find they should fit Nicely without the Spacer if you weld them. I Also Die Grinded my 2 Pipes out, how RD has Described, the Restriction from Standard is Incredible. They are a Great Pipe except for this Problem, it would have to make ya Wonder WHY they're sold like that?

pocket mark , im not being criticle in regards to the angled spacer you made which would have taken some time to make but i don,t like it, sorry for this as i can see a restriction which will still slow down exhaust gases. this spacer is like a dog leg if you know what i mean, we want a straight matched section so the exhaust gases can escape and return as quick as possible. what you should do is bend the header pipe out approx 10mm then shape a spacer to the desired angle plus buy a different sparkplug which is shorter in total porcelain length. as i mentioned once before, you do some very good mods and all would appreciate.

Actually its the same spring, which appears to not be made of spring steel. Because i am ridicously strong i stretched it from the quarter size it was, to what you see in the pic. I finally bought a MIG welder today! First thing on my list was to weld the fatboy joins together and throw away the springs. They leak real bad with just the springs (and my excessive die grinding around the joins haha). Its been 12 years since i did a bit of welding at TAFE (and set my overalls on fire haha). My 1st welds were real ugly...and my last welds were......less ugly lol. Found a HUGE crack in my frame around the swing(less) arm. Welded up quicksmart till i buy a new frame!

Oh and my beautiful spacer is very misleading to look at from the side Its only temporary till i find a smaller spark plug but its no where near as restricting as it looks! I do some crazy crap at times, but i didn't want to restrict my exhaust even more
And thanks for the feedback RD and guys. Give it to me harsh (well not to harsh ). I like to try stuff, but if it sucks, it goes straight to bin! So let me know what you think and i won't be offended in the slightest!
