carbon reeds...

i just installeda set of carbon reeds on my cag.
was talking to a friend of mine who is a outboard engine mechanic and says that i should b careful of the carbon reeds as although they r stronger than fiber glass that they eventually will fray at the ends and the carbon will start to seperate and may break off into the egine and because they r stronger than fiber glass which would just crush up, they may cause damage.
has any1 encountered this problem with carbon reeds or wont that matter on these smaller engines??

only problem with them i had was with a set of polini reeds bother sets (blue and green) started to 'delaminate' stright-away but they didnt breake. So i got some bzm ones and there much better. i havent herd of that problem you mentioned but saying that its more than likley posible i wouldnt be to worried.

i would just inspect the reeds at regular intervals

With the reletively little use our bikes get I wouldn't be too worried about it. As as been said already, just keep an eye on the reeds. They give plenty of warning before failing.

I have noticed on Euro engines that come to me for rebuilds that if your using AV GAS or other high octanes that the ends of the carbon reeds will fray!You dont have this problem with the lamener reeds.But the carbon reeds do need to be inspected at certain intervals to make sure they are sitting flush on your reed box.Carbon reeds do give you better RPM and tuning is greater.

today is the first chance ive had to get on my bike with the carbon reeds and could tell the difference instantly. engine seem to rev more freely and pick up revs quicker.
although i had brand new tyres, rims, and bearings aswell so that would have helped.
but could definetly feel the difference in the way the engine performed today compared to before. as everything else is still stock.
