Walbro Tuning

Can someone confirm the initial settings for a Walbro carb? Does the idle screw really need to be wound all the way (clockwise) before then adjusting the L screw? My bike idles VERY high once started and i can't seem to get the idle lower with the L screw.

I can get it idling lower by unscrewing the idle screw so the tip is only just holding the throttle lever and with the L and H screws at initial settings (L - 1.75 screws out, H - 2 screws out).

Any guidance appreciated!

edit, btw the carb has been cleaned completely and reassembled perfectly on the manifold (no leaks) and the purge hole is not obstructed.

Can someone with a tuned Walbro carb tell me the position of their idle-stop screw, L and H screws?

I know mate, I just want a rough idea of other peoples setups. Besides, I think this page has better info for Walbro tuning:

Tuning A Walbro Carb

The site you linked was informative about the workings of the carb but the tuning was very vague. Thanks though, will give it another shot soon.

walbro initial set

Hi Druu, Hope this helps.. the instructions that came with my carb says to wind both screws fully in untill the stop (gently so you dont strip the thread)then wind out the low speed screw (right screw)1 and 1/4 turns anti clock.
next the high speed 2 turns anti clock..this is supposed to be the initial factory settings, the rest is all r&d

There must be something wrong with my carb as I can't seem to get a consistant tune with the Walbro. Everything is assembled properly though, I don't understand why the bike bogs/chutters when I give it throttle under load. Really struggling with this carb, I'm thinking of going for a Dellorto rep.

Send a message via MSN to mac90
is it a genuine walbro or a replica
if its a rep carb i would say its a leaky mixture O ring or bad diaphragm rubber or other internal rubber causing the trouble

this is why i recommend going genuine with carbs & stay away from the reps

the 14/14 dell carbs are simple just jet & forget as they have no other fine tune or mixture settings at all
