New here, bit of a question with timing keys

Hey everyone,
I'm a bit new here,
Got my pocket bike 2 days ago..
Its just a 49cc pocket bike
I uploaded a picture,
I'm not sure much about the actual bike.

I couldn't find a tutorial about how to change the timing key.

Does the changing to a pod style filter change the induction noise at all?
And the other thing was whether or not the aftermarket exhausts from ebay work very well? Does the note change very much?

thanks for your help, its a reall nice community here!
Adrian

welcome to the forum & to save sifting through thread after thread try typing key words into the search option at the top index of the forum most stuff has been covered but is sometimes hard to find without the search

anyhow
to install your key on a cag engine just remove the flywheel & with the keyway at the top the offset part of the key (or bit sticking out once installed) should be to the right >>> of the keyway (so it advances your flywheel & magneto clockwise)

a pod filter wont cut induction noise down but may help performance & increase life of the engine
a thick foam K&N type filter that you use filter oil on should cut down induction noise (similer to the filters used on most watercooled pocketbikes)

the fatboy pipes are a good cheap option it should increase midrange pickup to top end speed (good top end pipe can be sluggish on take off & corners & are prone to cracking & rust) around $50 make sure it comes with a tank

a jet pro replica will increase low end to midrange speed & slightly better topend than the stock pipes so is a good choice for track use on short & or tight tracks (good allround pipe & tough as nails ) around $80 should outlast the bike & are nickle or a crhome plated look so wont rust
hope this helps
mac.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm having quite a bit of trouble actually starting the bike
It took about 15 cranks of the pull starter to get it going at least

I leave the choke closed, pull slowly on the crank, and then give it a hard yank after 2-3 slow pulls on the crank.

It is not gettin the fuel down fast enough maybe?

I've even tried with the choke completely open.

Could this be something to do with fuel filter?

And i was also gonna ask, the little adjuster on the side of the carb, what does it do exactly?
My mates bike (same as mine) is in the same position

The bike runs fine when its started, but just has some trouble otherwise starting,
i was just wondering as well how much smoke is normal at WOT or idle

the screw on the side is the idle screw

the carby probbly needs a good clean out they have small bits of crap in the tank & line from new & need to be flushed out

make sure your fuel line is not kinked & it dosnt hurt to change fuel line & fuel filter

a new NGK plug will help it start easy the chinese plugs are rubbish only good to plug the hole for shipping

I got the recommended plug but i still think its not gapped right, i did regap it to the recommended amount. How hard is the carby to get to?
I think the fuel filter will need a change,

I didn't realise about the shavings found in the fuel tank, it was hard to find information (till i found this forum, thanks )

Ah so its only an idle screw, it doesn't adjust mixtures or anything?

Maybe mine was idling a bit low.

Is there a small tutorial to actually removing the carby and what to clean?

Any cheap pb is a CAG, cheap chinese cast.
Pull the back wheel off and when you take off the air cleaner you´ll see two long screws, undo and bob´s your uncle!!!!

a cag engine is a reed valve engine with the carby conected to the rear crank case

the other type of evgine used is a piston port engine it dose not use a reed valve & the carby connects to the cylinder on the oppisite side from the exhaust (usually used in chainsaws & scooter goped,s)

Thanks for that,
I read it on one of the posts earlier during a search.

The back wheel removal is just a matter of loosing the 2 side bolts and the back bolts which tension the rim (and chain?)

I tried earlier but had some trouble moving the wheel forward enough to loosen the chain off the rim.

Thanks
Adrian
