| PMT t-40, Sava A's and sticky zhongya's Last track day i had the pleasure of testing The PMT t-40 and The Sava A (soft).
The PMT
was suprisingly good given the hard compound of the tyre, the cold weather and drying track. The PMT's were fitted to the polini rep running the full polini 50cc engine and coped well with the power and high speed corners on our longer circuit (870m). However the tyres went searching for grip through slower corners, fighting for grip in the front. Durability was excellent.
PMT-t40 optimum pressure for the day was 16 psi(front) and 18psi(rear). The PMTs were horrible, unrideable in the wet due to their silica content. Fell down three times in one lap, eventually walked bike back to pits as was spinning rear down the straights at any throttle setting.
Overall, good control tyre that can be used in any class. Well worth the initial cost, as tyre could easily do a whole season. Rating = 8/10
SAVA A-
Best tyre i have ever ridden on (including full size bikes). Tyre built temperature even on drying track. Sava A's gave good feel all the way to the edge, giving a predictable brake away on the front when pushed. I literally could not unsettle the rear despite my best efforts.
One criticism would be durability. Would not get much more than two race days on a rear and possibly three on the front tyre. Definately an open class tyre. Not much point on a cag, as they would easily over power the chassis.
RATING= 9/10
Sticky Zhongya-
I have ridden on these tyres quite a bit. They work best at low pressures (15-16 psi) which allows them to build temperature. Perfect tyre for juniors and cags as they teach throttle control and give good, predictable brake away at the edge. Excellent value for money tyre, however quality control is poor, with the occasional tyre vibrating badly.
Rating= 4/10 (elite bikes)
8/10 (juniors, cags, those on a budget)
