Installing triple stage reeds plz help

Hi all

I just purchased new triple stage reeds and a fatboy pipe i stuck them all in then started it and it sounded wrong and it wouldnt go when i pulled the throttle in. After turning it off i seen smoke coming out of the pipe whats wrong is this normal ??? and how are the reeds suppose to be installed plz help does this part need to be on because i didint have it on its the stock metal thing of mine here:http://s65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...t=P6260014.jpg

they need to be installed like this, except without the metal thing, just the reeds,

Yer thats how i had it where does the small plastic black thing go inbetween or at the front ?.
