carby

hi all , just wondering about the stock carby , how many turns from tight does the mixture screw need to be for proper flow , my bike seems to have a bad flat spot at top end and bogs down from tight corners , also every now and then fuel pours out from the clear hose running from carby , is that an overflow pipe? it ran out of fuel and it obviously stopped leaking i filled the bike back up and it was no probs but it has happened again , ive been told maybe its the float ? thanks heaps for any info on this ....

stocky
If it's the round slide carby you mean, there is no mixture screw.

Just the idle setting. Fuel is adjusted by the needle and the main jet.

If it's a Walbro style then you need to tune the screw at the bottom of the carby and the "overflow" hose should run back to the fuel tank.

Need a little more info to help sorry.

What carby, which engine , what pipe, any mods.

Also , don't bother tunning anything untill you've stripped it and cleaned out the entire fuel system.

carby

thanks stocky for ur info , the bike is totally stock , im thinking it is the slide carby your talking about , it has only one screw and it does affect the idle , so how many turns should that be from tight ? , i got ripped off badly when i bought this bike and just want to get it going better my passion is to race the bike but as im on a pension i cant really afford the mods right now i need to be a lil competitive , the other problem is the brakes , it doesnt matter what adjustments i make they still dont do the job there supposed to , the pads are fine ive checked that , anyway thankyou stocky for your help....ps. the clear pipe i was saying on the carby has a hole at the bottom which pipe slides into it doesnt go into fuel tank ... thanks again

about your brakes the standard plastic leavered ones flex, so the tighter you pull the more they flex reducing your braking force, i call it PBABS. go down to your local push bike shop and get a set of alloy levers, done mine for $33 with new cables and would have to say that it endos and locks up a at bit too easy know but you do get better feeling of what the bike is doing during full braking. you can do this your self or get the bike tech to do the levers and set up for your.

beacuse in the differences in all the bikes out there, thereis no set rule for the idle screw. simply play around with it untill you get a nice bubbling idle.
HOWEVER, if your bike has bad flat spots at top end, it may be running lean, meaning u need a larger main jet. You can either put a very small drill bit thru the jet or tap it out to fit dellorto jets.
AND if it bogging out of corners, it may be rich in the middle range, this can be fixed by moving the clip on the needle one or 2 spaces UP. a good spot for the needle is in the middle spot, the 3rd spot that is.
if they are bad flat spot on wide open throttle, then i suggest doing a google search on pocket bike carby jets or something like that. you should find a 'how to' on the subject.
hope this helps...
