Pocket Quad - spark problem

I have a pocket quad (brand new ordered online) which ive had for a few weeks(8+) and hasnt been used since as the engine doesnt start, I had it started and ran for about 2mins this was the only time Its ran for more then 15seconds. Mind you this first time I started it Id already spend about 5hrs tinkering with the damm thing to get it started in the first place. It was revving off its tits due to carb settings. The next day after playing with carb and going to start it again it didnt start, so first thing was re checked the coil since I had all kinds of trouble getting it started the first time I knew it would most likley be the coil again.. re adjusted over and over and over again and will not run again.

Its taken a few scratches on the face of the magnets with all the different adjusting thats been happening altho I dont think could be the problem unless they are very shit magnets and a shit coil it should still get a good enough spark to start. Since then Ive been pretty pissed off, So Ive had another coil shipped in and put it on the other day, seems to be the same problem the spark is there but no where good enough, as Ive been testing the coils spark by using a electric drill buzzing the flywheel around so I dont have to keep putting the pull cover on and off, and Im having to use far to high rpm to spin the fly wheel before the coil starts to spark. If id try to pull the cord theres no way Im going to get near enough spark out of it.

Is there a ultra high performance coil out there that will fix this and give some decent spark? Or are these flywheel magnets crap as well?

I feel like throwing it in the bin and buying a new engine but I bought it to save money on other options in the first place.

Before anyone says buy this that and everything else, I want to keep spending to a minimum, Im not a 7yr old, and this quad isnt being ridden on its for a project.

Anyone have one and had the same problem? Have a fix or cheap and reasonable solution?

Thanks.

just try using a buissness card to set the gap for the coil, then go out and invest in a good spark plug and boot!

My gap is a folded slice of normal a4 printing paper (so its 2x thickness of paper) which would be about the same, maybe 2-4 would be a buisiness card depending on its thickness, Where can you buy a proper boot? Im cant believe I havent found a high performance coil for it since the lead/ boot is so dodgey looking. You have a link?

try a new plug first about $4 the chinese plugs that come with them are rubbish

if its not the plug could be the kill switch is shorting out (disconnect it to test), or last of all faulty coil if your gap is ok as you said

I havent got the plug connected, im eleminating as much as i can, Ive got the coil on the flywheel and im turning the flywheel with a electric drill and holding as well as leaning the coil end up on the metal frame to see for spark, so as far as I can tell ive limited it down to flywheel and magnets and something to do with the coil.. Ive just cranked the drill realy fast and theres spark and afair bit of shock coming threw the coil but the rpm im having to use is very high, its like the coil isnt working at low rpm but will at high rpm, making it hard to start since the pull cord is slow and has alot of compression.

to check for spark
*u must have the plug out & plug wire connected to the plug
*then you earth the side thread against the engine & pull the engine over & see if you have a nice blue spark at the plug electrode

you must do this with a new plug as the plug may be stuffed

ok well just spend another couple of hours on it, and we have mission completed. Got it fired up again.

Basically pulled the fly wheel off and sanded around the edge and over the magnets afew times with very fine sand paper. Wiped it clean and put it back in, checked a few other things with the carb and stuff, but turns out the spark is still basically the same (weak) with such a small visible spark but apparently after putting the pull start back on and giving it a few goes that its enough spark for this little engine..

Im not use to having such little spark since I ride dirt bikes and owned a handfull of them over the years they either spark big or not at all. So while my wr250 collects dust Ill keep playing with the little quad lol, Onto the next thing, trial and error hooking up electronics for remote control!
You heard it here first!
