Side by side twin CAG....help

Hello peoples,
i am currently in the process of building a twin engine CAG in my free time, and i would like some help...i have two options as i see it...
1. after trimming off any unnecessary metal, i put the second engine on the flywheel side of the first, and to counterbalance the weight of the engines, i run two custom made exhaust pipes over and out the left side of the bike (preferred option)

2. once again trim off any unnecessary metal, except, mount both engines as central as possible, and make so crazy "thingy" to get the chain back inline at the rear of the bike.

soo...what do you guys and gals think?

1st option is probably the best, but dont make the exhausts that they are heavier,, the lighter the bike is in the end the better..

1st option definately sounds awesome

good thinking for this! cant wait to see how this turns out

good luck man

although at the same time centralizing engines is probably the best way to go about things. as the weight will not be distributed unevenly...
this is a hard one mate.. i honestly dont no..

lets see wot the others say

howdy,

sounds cool i have some pics of a twin engine cag where theyve milled out a billet of aluminium as a central part of a crankcase. looks very nice!

i ripped off the swingarm and rewelded a wider one on for my electric bike. its maybe 50mm wider. if you do that (you will need to strengthen the frame with that power) then shift the motor over a couple of mm to line it up the weight balance will be fine.

how do you plan on joining the cranks together and running the ignition? i imagine the thing would vibrate like hell with both pistons sort of running in phase with each other.

your other option is to make a tandem twin. You put one motor in front of the other, have the two cranks joined by a chain or belt(similar to a cam chain, but 1:1) then run a clutch on the rear crank shaft. Packaging can be an issue, you might have to make one engine run backwards. this would be a setup similar to the rotax 256 gp engines.

just something to think about. Depends on what tools you have and how much time/effort you want to put in.

would be interesting pullstarting a chain linked motor like that come to think of it pullstarting a twin motor all together would be insane.

stuff the pull start. use a starter probe on the front crankshaft. The ignition side would be chained together, with the rear crank running a clutch. It leaves the front clutch side free for watever device you like (18v cordless drill) with one-way bearing

that bike is close, the v-twin with the front cylinder facing forward allows that chamber to run underneath the bike. The rear engine would have to run the barrel backwards so the exhaust went straight out the back, past the carby.
