well i do some robotic related stuff in my other spare time and the new project is a brushless ETEK dc motor into my little cag with the appropriate modifications, along with a crapload of M1 lithium nanophosphate batteries (thank you ebay ) which should pump out a realistic 15hp and endless torque.

i made my own custom mini kart a while ago that had two 300w scooter motors at 36v and that was about the same performance as the stocker cag with no where near the top speed.

question i had out of curiousity though is what is the original weight of a cag motor with the exhaust on it, i forgot to measure it when i had it out but what do you think? i reckon around 6kg, + 1.5kg for the fuel and tank say?

at this stage it looks like 9kg for the etek and a each 36v 2.2ah battery pack is 1kg on the dot, and ill probably be using around 6 of those packs. so probably 15kg drive train weight in the end

well each m1 battery pack is 36v and 2.4ah approx, the last two sets i got for $80 each so i figure ill need about 6 packs so $500 or so for those and the brushless etek i hear shouldnt be more than $600 with the controller.

heres some 7 cell test m1 packs anyway.

but for this stage i just need to get the motor and weld it in with the new tig i picked up. ill probably use the 5x 24v 2400 sanyo nicad packs in the background for now

will post a little build thread here when i get some progress going. been pretty busy lately

if you wouldnt mind that would be great matty!

the temporary batteries will be Sub-c's but the M1 cells are a bit of a wierd size. about half the diameter of a sub c / C cell but much much longer. i would use SLAs but im a lazy ass and would no doubt forget to charge them every so often and kill them
