Clutch Problem

Well i have bad news....my clutch spring snapped and started rubbing today....cheap piece of crap...anywho...ive decided this is the best time to fit my high performance one. However once i put the clutch on and tighten it up it rubs still. but if i take the clutch off and sit it in the drum the pads dont touch at all. Is there something else that could be spinning the drum? Could something else of stuffed up? Plz reply A-SAP guys.

Thanks

RD RACING is an unknown quantity at this point
this problem sounds like the clutch unit is binding on the clutch drum when you fit this, causes are; clutch unit is not fully seated on crankshaft end. clutch drum is either not compatable with new clutch unit or the clutch drum is not seated correctly in housing. the fix is either lapp the clutch unit center to the crankshaft with lapping compound or pack the clutch drum housing out slightly with a spacer. give a test by loosening the 4 clutch housing bolts by atleast 1 turn each bolt then start your engine, if no binding you know what should be done.

well i tried to space it a fair bit and didnt work. It turns over the engine pretty much what ever i do. Unless its a fair bit out (the drum) and that in my opinion is spaced too much. Do i need a new drum? If so where do i get one from? Thanks I.A

your best move would be to either take your clutch unit assembly to a store that specializes in p/bike replacement parts so they can advise you on the correct drum or buy a complete clutch / drum / housing assembly. have a look at our sponsored dealer sites for pics and prices, if you live in aust.

I was talking to sum1 on msn about pocket bikes and he had the same problem, all i need to do is grind down the clutch plate so its flush and uniform with the pads. If that dont work ill go to carter and see what they can offer. Thanks.

I've also got clutch problems, last night i installed new fibre glass reeds and a high performance clutch. My problem is that the clutch does not seem to kick in any later than the stock one and also it feels to be slipping alot even though i tightened the bolt that holds it in as tight as possible. It is alright on flat (still not as good as before) but when i get to hills i will find myself giving almost full throttle to try and get up a hill that before i could cruise up. Would this be because of the pads slipping on the drum? because i baked the clutch, because i couldn't see how the actual clutch could slip as it is so tight.

Thanks
