Del Rep or original??

hey just wondering the difference between the replicas and original del orto carbys.
are the reps that bad?
will i notice the difference with the performance?
be told the reps brake at the manifold. how long do they last??
thinking bout goin original as they r only $60 more and wondering if they r actually that much better. rep is $39 and original $99.
but the only thing reps r only 14/14 and original i can go up to 16mm.
considering i will hav head kit, reeds, pipe and all the other goodies im thinkin the bigger the better???

hey mate.
i had a del rep on my bike, it lasted about 8 months
then broke at the manifold joiner..
its was relly good till then..
now i got on the genuine del 14/14...
i didnt really notice any power increase but you can see
the genuine is much much better quality ( italian made )
just remeber if you go from the rep to genuine.. the jets
are different.. so when you buy a genuine del.. get extra
jets to suit it too....

if you have the extra dollars ,go for the genuine otherwise the dell reps are not bad atall. if they break at the manifold its your fault for over tensioning the carb to manifold etc, 14mm vent intake is great for racing. 16 mm plus is only better for straight line speed . i have seen guys run massive 17mm carbs with no success compared to a good working and tuned 14 mm will leave them dead. ozminimotos have some very good reps carbs available plus jet packs so you can find the magic tune.

yeah thanx heaps racer and rd. i was planning on gettin it from ozminimotos.
as i can get it sooner and not hav to wait 2 weeks to come from hkmotos.
although from hkmotos u get the manifold and airfilter included with the 15mm del rep for a bit cheaper than ozminimotos as u hav to buy the manifold seperately.
decisions decisions.

as suggested if you can afford a genuine carb go genuine but if your on a tight budget the reps work well if you dont over tighten the manifold clamp & they dont touch the frame
you may need to rejet it so grab a jet kit with it if possible

RD would be the best person to ask about carb & pipe combo for the RD 3d port head kit from ozminimoto as he did all the re machining & testing of these kits, & weather or not he recommends the full circle cranks or not

stock cranks may vibrate a touch more, the stock crank's are generally a lighter crank & may produce more rpms with a stock 12mm pin crank, lightened flywheel alloy clutch combo
any suggestions RD?

dam now i have even more ways to go. my brother just put a head kit on non ported and the difference in torque and pick up is unbelievable. he left my stock engine behind with ease.
so probably just go with the 3d port kit ffrom ozminimotos along with the del rep carby for now and see how long it lasts. will try a full circle crank later if i feel it needs it.
also just got my carbon reeds today. how much a difference will these make?

A genuine carb is the way to go. I don't even consider reps an option anymore. If you go a genuine carby you know it's going to be built to the same tolerances of every other carby that came out of the factory and most importantly It will work and consistantly. On the other hand reps are as identical to each other as snow flakes and seem to melt just as quickly.

Ozminimotos have both sized 3D head kits to suit either the 10mm or 12mm piston pin cranks, so when ordering you must measure the diameter of your existing piston pin, this can be done by just measuring with a ruler across the piston side where the pin is [ 10mm or 12mm ] the dellorto carby or the walbro carby are great choices and your new reeds will work well, just make sure you fit a better than stock pipe such as a fatboy or jetpro and also fit a good quality fuel filter as the stock filters only block up the carby jets.
