nah mate you are about 15 steps behind. The idle screw only opens the throttle. If im opening it at the twist grip it will make no difference. I have just checked the main tube and it is clear so now im running out of options. Maybe an airleak in the carb itself? anyhoo im about ready just to buy another rep

could you have bumped the float by any chance my carbi was doing the same thing the other day the only thing i put it down to was my float was that i set my float a bit too low when i was fiddling with it. just an idea

Dell'Orto do not tune their carbys to suit any engine, this is up to each purchaser and their application for the carby.
Ben, the carby is fine the jet maybe a little large for a standard cag, but would not be your problem.
The problem will be dirt within the carby, from your fuel or fuel lines.
I would say the idle circuit is blocked, making it run lean.
You will need to pull the carby totally apart, then blow all parts out with a high pressure compressor, then put it all back together.
After this it should run okay.

No these are all the things I did before asking for advise. Anyway I have worked out the problem. It was the manifold. Even tho it looked the same as a standard one the end where the carb attaches was about 1.5mm shorter than it should be. Because of this although the carb was going on as far it can go it was not making a seal with the rubber ring in the carb and air was getting in. I had another manifold and ive swapped it over and it is now running fine. If I didn't have the other manifold lying around I doubt I would have ever figured this out either.

Yeah I know RD your all over it! Still when the old rep carbie, even tho its broken yet still works yet the new original dellorto doesn't, its a hard one to nut out. Cos you cant see inside the conection between the carb and manifold you cant see that the manifold (which is too short) isn't reaching the seal in the carb. Hopefully if anyone else has the same problem they will find this thread. Beware of replica manifolds!!!
