rd racing 6port headkit question

hi guys i was just wondering what fuel would i use when running this headkit in conjunction with jetpro rep pipe 6mm reed spacer 14/14 rep ts reeds advanced timing key ect.
I'm hoping i can use premium pump fuel as i have no idea how to get higher octane fuel also when i install my new parts what oil should i use for re-run in and what ratio(25-1?) my normal oil is castrol tts.

cheers. nick.

simple answer is the best you can afford! i always run mine off the high octane pump fuel (bp ultimate) and then add some TTS (i want to get some MOTUL soon..)

and get the fuel when you need it. it will spoil if you leave it too long. especially the premix 2 stroke.

but in saying that i ran only premix 2 stroke in my old modded cag with the RD head kit in it and ran fine without problems for maybe 3 hours or run time total? i felt the only difference was how easy it started. nothing else aside from that really.

but as crash says dump some toluene into the fuel to bring up its octane rating

and if you get to 16:1 reach for the methanol

You can usually get Toluene from any petrolium distrubters that sell to the public. Price is often $4.40 a litre for small quantities. (i.e under 100L) I only ever buy 4 litres at a time.

For those who don't know Toluene is an aeromatic hydrocarbon which is used to enchance petrol blends based on the mixture of chemicals to produce the desired RON rating for a fuel. Mobil Synergy 8000 premium unleaded has 20% toluene in it to start with along with lots of other nasty but cool chemicals. Mobil Synergy 2000 on the other hand is the base 91 octane fuel, a dirtier fuel which contains 40% toluene.
Gives you an idea of what you can safely run.

Your on your own when it comes to working out what ratio of toluene to petrol you should run though. I ran up to 30%
I'd suggest trying about 10 - 15% total per litre.

You'll also need to run a fairly cold spark plug range.

Hi Nick, all you need in fuel is premium unleaded petrol plus a mix of good quality 2 stroke oil such as Motul-800 full synthetic, this should be mixed at a ratio of 40 parts petrol to 1 part oil [ 40 to 1 ] equals 4 litres of petrol and 100 mls of this oil. there is no great need to add performance fuel additives other than select the correct jet size for your carby. the highest of octane fuel wont make your engine go any quicker if you have the wrong jet fitted , grab a jet pack from ozminimotos and experiment until you find the best to suit.

thanks for that great info i think ill just use premium because I'm not to sure about fuel additives so i would rather not try something I'm probably gonna screw up. also what size is the standard delorto 14/14 rep jet size and what size should i be aiming for??

cheers. nick.

Thats the best way to be too vwikit. If you run from your local petrol station and use the same method to mix the fuel and oil you will always have consistant performance and tuning. Where as, start adding in extra additives and it introduces a higher potential for mistakes to be made and things to go wrong.
I myself have been guilty of this, varied my method of mixing my oil into fuel and destroyed an engine because of it. Lesson learnt.

jetting will depend on the engine & where you like eg how far above or below seal level you are its best to grab a full jet kit & install & test different size jets

i found some 14/14 reps run a .65 jet standard but it depends on what the factory have in stock when the carbs are put together

a few reps i have seen have had the jet size stamped on the side & some have not , so you will have to try different sizes from the .68-to.80 depending on the engine & altitude above sea level
